2014 Trecini Merlot, Russian River Valley, California, USA$25.00
The 2014 Trecini Merlot comes from the Dunn Vineyard, which sits in the low-lying eastern foothills of Sonoma County in a slightly warmer region of the Russian River Valley. The vines grow in well drained gravely soils on a westerly facing slope which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and capture the last bit of the sun’s afternoon warmth, an essential factor in this much cooler vintage. Memorable, the Merlot brings a richer mouth-feel, with a rich velvet texture. The lower alcohol allows for these deeper complex textures and dimensions to come together and produce a distinctive classic Merlot more reminiscent of Europe than California. Trecini Merlot shows off delicious red fruit characters, with some whiffs of dried herbs and a touch of tobacco. Suitable for drinking now, we believe that this wine has enough natural acidity and structure to be consumed for several years to come.

Several years ago, I helped out in the tasting room at Pedroncelli Winery. I always marveled at how beautiful the country side was, even on rainy days, and the care that was shown to the land. Four generations of Pedroncellis have tended the land and grown the business even during prohibition when they continued to produce grapes for home consumption. I also marveled at the fact that they always kept their wines at a reasonable price even though they had a reputation for great wines and could have charged more.
John Pedroncelli, who was instrumental in building Sonoma County’s wine industry was just two years old when his family moved to Geyserville in 1927 and started making wine. Having graduated from UC Davis with a degree in oenology, Pedroncelli went on to produce 66 vintages at the Pedroncelli Winery and continued to consult for the winery up until his death. Pedroncelli pioneered affordable, approachable wines from the Dry Creek Valley and championed Zinfandel, making California’s first Zinfandel rosé.
The Pedroncelli Mother Clone 2015 Zinfandel is a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Fragrant aroma of raspberry and red plum with a touch of black pepper and vanilla. Dolinsek Ranch, a magical vineyard planted over 104 years ago by the Frati family, has produced outstanding wines throughout the 20th century. The soil is a rich sandy-Goldridge loam and is located just off the famous Laguna Road, one of the best terroirs of the Russian River Valley. The 2015 vintage shows elegance and length, medium tannins, coupled with lush liquor like berry fruit and white pepper. Andrew Murray Esperance Rose 2017$26.00
Andrew Murray Vineyards estate vineyard, the Curtis Vineyard, is planted to about 50 acres of a great selection of Rhone varieties, including a variety that is particulary well suited to Rosé production – Cinsault. It makes up many of the delicious, light, and dry Rosé bottlings that remind folks of sunny breezy days spent in the south of France (even if you have never been there). The grapes were all harvested at peak Rosé maturity (early, with a lower sugar and brighter acid), in the middle of the night, and then quickly foot stomped to help start the color extraction process. The mashed grapes were then transferred to a cold room to macerate overnight. At first light the next day, the grapes were gently pressed off skins and fermentation was encouraged to start asap, in 100% stainless steel. The wine was aged in the same tank, on lees, choosing to only pump it once, as it was transferred to bottle. The resulting wine is wonderfully light, yet complex, and full of personality. Yes, there are plenty of fruity notes, but this is definitely not a kool-aid Rosé of yesteryear from California. Rather, it is very much in the moment. Andrew Murray Roasted Slope 2015, Santa Inez Valley, CA$44.00
25 years ago, when Andrew Murray began his wine journey, Viognier was his muse. It was a vineyard nursery’s mistake that sent him down the Syrah path. That original vineyard block that was established, simply known as block 17, was planted as Viognier and cared for as Viognier for the first 3 years of its life. It was not until its first fall with grapes hanging heavy on the vine did we notice a few clusters turning red. At first it was in denial, thinking that we had planted a few Syrah vines among the Viognier. I was soon to find out, that we actually had clearly planted mostly Syrah with just a few Viognier vines. Rather than pout about it, they decided to begin to co-ferment the two grapes together, just like they do in the famed Northern Rhône appellation of Côte Rôtie. They decided to name this new wine Roasted Slope (a direct and literal translation of Côte Rôtie). Fans and critics alike fell in love with this wine, and it was always the most sought after wine each vintage. They have not produced this wine since 2005, but now have released the new and improved Roasted Slope, a blend of co-fermented Syrah and Viognier, all from three vineyard blocks along Alisos Canyon Road. 600 Cases Produced

Tucked into the foothills of Mount Saint Helena on the remote eastern edge of Sonoma County, Knights Valley experiences a moderated climate, offering a longer and later growing season that develops dark fruit aromatics. The 2014 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is bold with black forest fruit and spiced plum, offering undertones of roasted coffee and crushed rock. We have been fortunate enough to get a few bottles and we are happy to have it available to you. 100% of the Arrowood 2015 Viognier was sourced from Saralee’s Vineyard in the Russain River Valley. The vines are terraced in a concentric circle around a small hill on the famed Saralee’s Vineyard, which offers various exposures that impart a complex aromatic profile to the fruit. Vibrant floral aromatics of jasmine and orange blossoms provide lift to a core of juicy summer stone fruits, yellow peach and apricots. Au Bon Climat Pinot Gris – Pinot Blanc 2016, Central Coast$23.00
Jim Clendenen graduated from the University of California, Santa Barbara, with High Honors in Pre-Law in 1976. It was during his “junior year abroad” in 1974, while turning 21 in France, that he discovered life beyond tacos. After graduation, a one month stay in both Burgundy and Champagne convinced him to attempt a career in wine rather than continue on to law school. Beginning with the 1978 harvest, Jim Clendenen was assistant winemaker at Zaca Mesa Winery for three vintages, and in 1982, started his own winery – Au Bon Climat. The 2016 Au Bon Climat Pinot Gris – Pinot Blanc, Central Coast is simply delightful – a great summer refresher! This is the wine, once discovered, that will become your house white- it's just too thoroughly agreeable to ignore. A refreshing, dry white with citrus lemon/lime notes, flinty minerality, and crisp finish. In the mouth the wine is rich and textural, from the time spent on lees in the barrel. This is a great match with shellfish of any kind, or richer white meats such as turkey or duck.
Au Bon Climat Chardonnay 2015, Santa Barbara$26.00
The blend is from four well-farmed vineyards: Bien Nacido, Sierra Madre, Los Alamos and Rancho Vinedo. Au Bon Climat has been making balanced, food friendly Chardonnays since 1982. Even in the early 2000s when ripe, oaky Chardonnays were all the rage, Au Bon Climat stuck to a more subtle and refined style, with minerality and intensity. The 2014 Santa Barbara County Chardonnay is a beautiful example of the Au Bon Climat style. The flinty, stony aromas stand out while in the background is a hard spice note from surlee barrel aging. There are notes of lemon-lime and soft vanilla. With the first taste it is irresistible. This is one of those wines that invites the consumer to have another glass. At this young age, this wine would be perfect with shellfish or poultry. It will improve for at least 10 years and as it evolves, try this wine with Chanterelle mushroom pasta and be amazed.
