Brown Chaos Theory 2014$44.00
Now in its tenth vintage, Brown 2014 Chaos Theory continues to echo their journey through the world of wine, consistently proving that the best is yet to come, there’s always something to look forward to, and no matter how random or chaotic things may seem there is method and meaning to all that we do and experience. Simply put, all’s well that ends well! Once in your glass the 2014 Chaos envelops the bowl in a wash of dramatic royal purple surrounded by a delicate garnet rim. Its intense billowing fragrance begins with blue fruits then shifts markedly to red fruit and flowers – blueberry, mulberry, blackberry, then Bing cherry, violet, and rose. Ripe fruit commingles with tart pomegranate and winter spice, further revealing sassafras root, subtle spearmint, and cherry cola with gravel, loam, and a hint of minerality. Mouthfeel is dense, rich, and decadent with loads of luscious fruit, vanillin, and cascading spice. 60% Zinfandel, 35% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Petite Sirah. Drink now through 2023. 1800 cases made.
Elyse Zinfandel 2013, Morisoli Vineyard$40.00
Elyse Winery has been making Zinfandel from the Morisoli Vineyard since 1986 and have been the only producer working with these grapes since 1988. The old field-blend vines, Rutherford Bench terroir, and the traditional farming practices always create a truly distinctive style of Zinfandel. The 2013 Morisoli Zinfandel is aromatically teasing with scents of crushed berries, violets, bacon, and cinnamon. It is lush all the way across the palate with bright but deep flavors of raspberry, blackberry, and cassis with a creamy texture and ripe, leathery sweet tannins. This wine is extremely food friendly. Try it with a peppered steak, osso buco, rich tomato dishes, pasta, or a selection of cheeses.
2015 Pedroncelli Winery Mother Clone Zinfandel Dry Creek Valley Sonoma USA$21.00
Several years ago, I helped out in the tasting room at Pedroncelli Winery. I always marveled at how beautiful the country side was, even on rainy days, and the care that was shown to the land. Four generations of Pedroncellis have tended the land and grown the business even during prohibition when they continued to produce grapes for home consumption. I also marveled at the fact that they always kept their wines at a reasonable price even though they had a reputation for great wines and could have charged more.
John Pedroncelli, who was instrumental in building Sonoma County’s wine industry was just two years old when his family moved to Geyserville in 1927 and started making wine. Having graduated from UC Davis with a degree in oenology, Pedroncelli went on to produce 66 vintages at the Pedroncelli Winery and continued to consult for the winery up until his death. Pedroncelli pioneered affordable, approachable wines from the Dry Creek Valley and championed Zinfandel, making California’s first Zinfandel rosé.
The Pedroncelli Mother Clone 2015 Zinfandel is a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Fragrant aroma of raspberry and red plum with a touch of black pepper and vanilla. Bing cherry and raspberry flavors framed by subtle black pepper spice. Well integrated flavors with round tannins and warm toasty oak in the finish.
