Robert Biale Black Chicken Zinfandel 2017
$55.00Years ago, near the end of Prohibition, Aldo Biale made and sold wine in secret. He sold his jugs of Zin to friends and neighbors on the “down low”, and the phone started ringing regularly for re-orders. The Biale’s phone was a party line, so nosy neighbors could listen in on conversations, including orders for produce, eggs and a jug of Aldo’s homemade wine from barrels he hid in the barn. Since they also raised and sold chickens, the code word for the wine became Black Chicken, and that name continues to this day. Early harvest yields high quality wine grape crop. The Oak Knoll winegrowing region is prevalent in this wine with its ripe aromatics and juicy acidity. The nose is full of vibrant Bing cherries, raspberries, cinnamon, white cake, fresh purple flowers, subtle dried herb and toasty brown spices. The entry is bright and gives way to supple, round tannins. The lovely finish is the signature of this elegant and remarkably balanced Zinfandel.

Graziano Zinfandel 2015, Mendocino
$22.00The Graziano Zinfandel 2015, Mendocino, comes from 5 different old vine Zinfandel vineyards scattered throughout the benchlands and hillsides of Mendocino County. Old vine vineyards such as Tournour, Kazmet and Zeller grace this fine wine. Many of these vineyards are still farmed by 3rd and 4th generation Italian-Americans. This vintage displays a rich dark purple garnet color and deep aromas of black cherry, boysenberry, plum, spicy sandalwood with hints of toasty oak. Uplifting flavors of plum, black cherry cola and a subtle of earthiness combine to give this full-bodied Zinfandel a generous mouth-feel. Rich full tannins and balanced acidity lead into a long, lingering finish.Enjoy with garlic and rosemary seasoned lamb chops, Italian sausage or spicy tomato pasta dishes. A grilled burger with melted gorgonzola in one hand and this Zin in the other hand is what the good life is all about.

Woodenhead Zinfandel 2014, Guido Venturi Vineyard, Mendocino County, USA
$38.00The winemaking at Woodenhead is pure and simple. Their wine is handcrafted from a hard labor of love in tune to the natural rhythm of the land, the water, the air, and the seasons. No mechanical pumping is employed. Inoculated yeast and malolactic cultures, hand punching, basket pressing, French oak, and California fruit is what you get. Small and unique lots are their goal, ultra premium wine is the result. The award winning Woodenhead Zinfandel 2014, Guido Venturi is a very dark ruby red, with tight aromas, but essences of sage, plum, and briar. What it withholds in aromatics right now, it more than makes up for on the palate. A big wine, viscous with plenty of legs, big, bright and juicy, berries, plums, rose, cedar cigar box. Full bodied for sure, jammy, spicy with some pepper. Moderate tannins. Medium long finish and complexity. A bomb! Pair it with BBQ, smoked meats, garlic bread. You get the picture!
