Oakville Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Napa Valley USA$59.00
In 1903 the Pelissa family purchased 35 acres between the Napa River and the Napa Valley Railroad in Calistoga with a single $10 gold coin. Thus began one family's history in the Napa Valley. Today the same family owns approximately 1,000 acres in Napa Valley with over 300 acres designated as a preserve intact with its natural state and 635 acres farmed as certified organic vineyards. Throughout the 20th century, the family grew and their experience expanded across the valley. Then in 1993 the heirs of the Pelissa family acquired the Oakville Winery property from Heublein – Inglenook. The winery was originally built in 1877 by two Frenchmen, Jean Adolphe Brun and Jean Chaix and it was the 9th bonded winery in California. The “Brun and Chaix Oakville Winery” passed through various hands in the 20th century and when the Pelissa family acquired it they formed the Napa Wine Company and Bonded Winery #9. The winery and adjacent Pelissa Vineyard, totals 62 acres on the corner of Highway 29 and the Oakville Cross Road. In 2009 the first vintages of Oakville Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel were released. This special Cabernet Sauvignon is a traditional and classic style that reflects old-school Oakville. Aromas of fall spice and cedarwood, along with bright red cherry jump from the glass. The wine evolves
with every swirl, releasing cherry licorice, chai spice, and cedar. The cherry fruit, along with currants an cassis bring this wine to life on your palate. A very well-structured wine with sturdy, yet balanced tannins. The wine will drink well now and over the next10 to 15 years.
LaPlaya Red Blend 2016$19.00
This beautiful red blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carmenere will grace your dinner table with ease! The La Playa Red Blend 2016 is a rich maroon color. On the nose, ripe strawberry with hints of black pepper. It has great balance between structure and flavor with a light approachable palate. Enjoy with lamb chops studded with garlic and grilled
Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon 2018/2019$79.00
Trefethen Cabernet Sauvignon 2018/2019 vines are planted in the gravelly soils of the estate vineyard in the Oak Knoll District of Napa Valley. These well-drained soils, combined with limited yields and moderate climate, produce Cabernet Sauvignon fruit with complex flavors and a special brightness on the palate.
Ripe, focused flavors of cherry, boysenberry, and blackcurrant are complemented by soft notes of cedar, bay leaf, and a savory earthiness. On the palate, this wine has a fruit-driven entry balanced with firm tannins that give way to a lush, lingering finish. This wine shines with red meats and copious amounts of thyme and black pepper. Chef Chris Kennedy recommends using them to marinate a filet of beef, in a hearty beef stew. or to finish a red wine sauce. Not a big red meat eater? One of his other favorite go-to dishes for this wine is ahi tuna crusted in black pepper. 92 Points James Suckling, Best in Show – Decanter World Wine Awards
