Elizabeth Rose Pinot Noir 2014, Yountville Napa Valley USA
The fruit for the Elizabeth Rose wines is primarily sourced from a 450-acre vineyard in Yountville, Napa Valley named Block House. Block House is the largest of the family vineyards and is planted to several different grape varietals. All 100% Certified Organic. The vineyard is named for pioneer George C. Yount’s blockhouse, the first Kentucky style blockhouse west of the Mississippi. In the design of a blockhouse, the top floor juts out over the ground floor so that inhabitants can protect the structure. Blockhouses were often constructed for defense in frontier areas. The Pinot Noir delivers beautiful aromas of floral elements, with a hint of sandalwood and earthiness. Continuing into rose petal and red pepper fresh from the tree. On the palate luscious strawberry and red cherry with spicy undertones. A mid weight wine with pure expression of the grape. Slight oak on the finish to frame and outline the wine. Aged in barrel 8 months sur lies in 35% new French oak barrels.
