Avenales Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon 2018
The Avenales Ranch Silver Buckle Cabernet 2018 is a beautiful wine from young Cabernet vines. The label is a depiction of the belt buckle that their family patriarch (Big Jim) wore for his entire life.
The 2018 vintage was the first time the vines produced fruit and it was at a very low yield and great quality. A true Cabernet Sauvignon from the front of the pallet through the finish. You will enjoy the ripe plum and peppery notes while thinking of the warm days and cool nights that make this wine truly enjoyable.
Enjoy with a juicy steak, pepper crusted ahi, roasted duck over potatoes, or a nice cheese plate.

Sean Minor Four Bears Cabernet Sauvignon 2018, Paso Robles California USA$21.00
Sean Minor was born in Kansas but he began his career in the wine industry after a formal education in finance from Arizona State University where he also met his wife, Nicole. They moved to California after graduation, where he began working for Napa Valley’s Beaulieu Vineyard. At the same time he took classes at U.C. Davis in Viticultural and Enology in hopes of developing a further understanding of grape growing and wine production. Then Sean moved to the Pacific Northwest after being recruited by King Estate Winery (widely renown for producing Oregon’s largest and most highly regarded Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris) to manage the Estate. He met Will Bucklin, King Estate’s then winemaker, and developed an even stronger knowledge of winemaking and gained a lifelong friend. Sean learned firsthand the importance of site-specific viticulture, and ended up leaving King Estate to lead Benton Lane Winery then the family returned to California in 2001 where Sean had the opportunity to manage Renwood Winery and enhance his wine experience growing and marketing some of the Golden State’s best Zinfandel and Syrah. Four years later, he founded Sean Minor Wines.
This lovely Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby in color and displays aromas of lavender, cedar and raspberry fruit. Flavors of blackberries and raspberries combined with hints of savory spices coat the palate. The soft tannins and sweet oak balance lead to a long and lingering finish.
Happy Canyon Piocho Bordeaux Red Blend 2017, Happy Canyon Valley, California, USA$37.00
Piocho Ranch was acquired by Thomas J. Barrack Jr. in 1992. Out of a love for the countryside and a ranchers life, the Barrack family developed rolling acres of vineyards. The peaceful and beautiful property sits nestled in the Happy Canyon Valley, a perfect location for growing grapes and riding horses. Two regulation sized Polo fields are groomed with the same care as the finest golf courses in the world. Piocho means “Where the two rivers meet and go to heaven.” The Happy Canyon Piocho 2017, a Bordeaux blend, has an inviting deep ruby color. Ripe black currant, cherry, espresso and smoky oak show on the nose. This wine is lush, sweet and open-knit, with a pliancy to its flavors of dark berries, licorice and chewing tobacco. The Happy Canyon Bordeaux Red Blend 2015 exhibits deep aromas of spice, dark bing cherries, wood, burnt blackberries and jam. On the palate there are slight herbal/floral flavors with minerality, dried violets and tobacco all surrounded by dense fruit. This a truly lovely wine that is wonderful to drink today when paired with big rich cuisine such as Santa Maria Tri-Tip. The wines structure will allow it to mature and age nicely for at least another decade! Dusty, slow-building tannins give grip to the finish, which repeats the cherry and licorice notes.
