Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Home > Region > Region - California > Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2018

Banshee Wines was founded by three friends from the Midwest and East Coast who shared a passion for wine and a lifelong dream of owning their own winery. Their  fascination with wine started early in life. While their peers were drinking Milwaukee’s Best, they had an affinity towards collecting European wines and hosting dorm room wine tastings. Post-college, each pursued a career in the wine industry, ranging from importing wines, to winemaking, to distribution and sales. When their paths ultimately converged in San Francisco in 2009, they pooled their money together to make the first vintage of Banshee Wines. After a few years, they migrated up to Healdsburg, where they’ve developed strong relationships with the owners and growers of some of the best and most coveted vineyards in Sonoma, working in lock step with them to produce wines of depth, purity and balance.  They strive to make wines with the complexity and deliciousness of those found at the very top of the quality and price scale, but at a price that is affordable for everyone and not just the uber-wealthy.

The Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2017 comes from a combination of vineyards in the Russian River and Dry Creek valleys. These areas are perfect for the style of Sauvignon Blanc we all love – a combination of sufficient daytime warmth to develop exuberant fruit flavors and plenty of morning/evening coolness to preserve lip smacking structure and vital tart and green-tinged flavors.

In addition, they like to utilize the charms of the musque´ variation of Sauvignon Blanc to highlight the lifted perfume and floral aspects it brings. About 30% of this wine is powered up by musque´ (think X-Men).

A fragrant nose of floral citrus blossom. Flavors of white peach and green apple pack a juicy punch with soft hints of jasmine and lilac. A balanced finish of floral and citrus zest brings bright acidity and a hint of sea salt packs a flavorful finish.

The Happy Canyon “Piocho” Sauvignon Blanc 2019 exhibits floral aromas with a hint of brioche toast, honeysuckle, figs and a zesty citrus note. The Sauvignon Blanc provides a lift and perfect accompaniment to the Semillon with varietal aromas of grass and tropical fruit. The wine shows pear and apple with nice wood tones with creaminess on the mid-palate that gives way to a hint of vanilla. It delivers a very rich mouth feel with a good acid backbone. Smoothly balances energy and weight and finishes with excellent clarity and mineral-driven persistence.
This is a fantastic summer wine!.

Vina Robles  sources their Sauvignon Blanc fruit from a small lot on the Jardine Vineyard. Although vigorous on the vine, during fermentation the wine can be sensitive to degradation so steps are taken to preserve the fragile varietal characteristics.

The grapes for the 2019 vintage were picked and delivered to the winery in the cool morning hours. Gently handled, the fruit was left on the skins with judicious use of inert gas during pressing. The wine was then cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to limit oxidation and preserve the aromatics. Following fermentation, the wine was kept on the lees to further enhance the characteristics and mouthfeel.

The color of the Vina Robles Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of light straw leading to aromas of guava and passion fruit, with hints of grapefruit and lemongrass. Enjoy the medium-bodied texture with fruit forward flavors that linger into a refreshing finish.
