Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2020, Los Alturas Vineyards, Santa Lucia Highlands, CA

Home > Region > Region - California > Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2020, Los Alturas Vineyards, Santa Lucia Highlands, CA

Probably better known for their wildly popular Meiomi Pinot Noir, Belle Glos makes a wonderful single vineyard Pinot from the Los Alturas Vineyard in the Santa Lucia appellation. Located in one of the highest-plantable sites in the Santa Lucia Highlands of Monterey County, this pristine bench offers the Las Alturas Vineyard cool, coastal days with consistent sunshine and a foundation of Gloria sandy loam soil. When planting this 15-acre vineyard, they matched various Pinot Noir clones to individual slopes and soil attributes of the land. Yields are deliberately kept low in order to preserve the fruit intensity these clonal choices provide. The Belle Glos Pinot Noir 2020, Los Alturas Vineyard starts off with a deep ruby red color and intriguing aromas of sun-warmed blackberries, ripe plums, with hints of black licorice. A complexity of dark berry fruits unfold on the palate; blackberries and bing cherries along with dark chocolate flavors. Vanilla and cedar oak undertones on the mid-palate further enhance the wine. The overall impression is rich with refined tannins, firm acidity and explosive layers of ripe fruit.

This Merlot is harvested from five separate hillside locations throughout the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The wines from these hillsides each have their own identity, and each contributes different characteristics to the final blend. Cabernet Franc is added in to provide additional softness and complexity. Spiced aromas of ripe plum, wild blueberry, and cassis with a touch of cedar, earth, and subtle mint. The mouth is smooth and round – layered with bright flavors of black cherries, red currants, and sweet vanilla. Ripe tannins fill the palate and provide an elegant finish of dried red fruits.

  • La Crema Pinot Noir 2014, Anderson Valley

    $59.00

The Anderson Valley AVA is considered by many to be one of the premier growing regions for Pinot Noir in California and wines from the area exude unique characteristics. Located near the cool influence of the Pacific Ocean, Anderson Valley offers a diverse range of geography from the valley floor broken up by meandering rivers to mountains that rise to over 1600 feet sitting above the fog line. This Anderson Valley Pinot Noir is a blend of fruit from two of our estate vineyards. Maggy Hawk in the cool “deep end” of the valley is one of the last vineyards before the Pacific Ocean and benefits from the proximity to the maritime influence. Skycrest Vineyard is situated within the warmer Eastern section of the valley and sits at a much higher elevation. Both vineyard sites benefit from unique soils comprised of weathered sandstone which moderates vine vigor and allow for excellent drainage. Clones for this wine include 115, 667, 777, and 828.

Aromas of black currant, rose petal, and cedar box are followed by flavors of blackberry, red cherry and forest floor. On the palate, the wine exudes concentrated flavors and silky tannins. This wine loves a burger with pickled onions, smoked cheeses, herbed roast chicken (or classic coq au vin!), pizza with sun-dried tomatoes and crab-stuffed mushrooms.
