Capo Creek Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

Home > Region > Region - California > Capo Creek Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

I am always impressed by what people did before the wine world.  Here’s two sisters – Mary and Nadine Roy who owned and operated a radiology business in Illinois and now have been running Capo Creek Ranch for the last 4 years. Mary Roy is the mother of six and previous owner/lead physician of Midwest Center for Advanced Imaging, specializing in MRI and Women’s Imaging. Nadine Roy was a co-owner and executive director of that business and has now been certified as a sommelier and works alongside her sister, the winemaker.

This estate old vine zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley is full of juicy fruit flavors dominated by dark cherry, black raspberry & pomegranate. Red licorice and a touch of spice from choice oak barrels balance it nicely and adds a complexity that makes every sip a delight. 350 cases produced.

Now in their 25th bottling of ‘Old Vines’ Zinfandel they realize this wine is not only about an enjoyment of the senses but also a tribute to the magical old vines located around them in California. The 2019 Old Vines Zinfandel is sourced from two incredible old vine vineyards. The main source comes from old friends, the Luvisi family, whose grapes were planted in 1908 and has been the building block of our Old Vine Zinfandel since the beginning. The second vineyard is the historic Del Barba vineyard located in the delta town of Oakley and has own-rooted, dry farmed Zin grapes that were planted in 1910. This 2019 vintage wine displays the classic aromas of old vine zinfandel. It is very aromatic with notes of ripe boysenberries, blackberry pie, licorice, cinnamon, and sweet spices. On the palate, it is flashy and expressive with flavors of wild berries, currant, and mocha. This multi-dimensional, complex Zin exhibits unparalleled flavor concentration and character. Each vineyard block was harvested and fermented separately.250 cases

  • Kokomo Dry Creek Zinfandel 2019

    $32.00

Kokomo Dry Creek Zinfandel 2019 is comprised of fruit from three different vineyards: Mizany Vineyard, Timber Crest Vineyard, and Pauline’s Vineyard. Although all are located in Dry Creek Valley, the different vineyards bring three unique wines with their own distinct personalities. Mizany Vineyard is planted to the DuPratt clone of Zinfandel, which has a spicier character with a darker fruit profile. Timber Crest and Pauline’s Vineyards are both planted to the old mother-clone of Dry Creek, but are grown on two very different sites. Pauline’s Vineyard is on the valley floor in the famous Cortina gravelly loam, while Timber Crest Vineyard, the oldest of all three vineyards, is planted on the East Bench behind our winery.  The 2019 Kokomo Zinfandel is classy and elegant, displaying a ravishing garnet color and showing the bright acidity and fruit of black cherry and smoky plum. Rustic yet plush, aromas of cherry, anise, and underbrush give way to focused flavors of red plum, smoky herb, and pepper.

  • Trecini 2016 Rockpile Zinfandel

One of the regions finest appellations for growing Zinfandel is the heralded ‘Rockpile’ AVA in the northern realms of the Dry Creek Valley. Rockpile is unique in that there are no wineries within the borders of the AVA. However, winemakers have long considered this region a hidden gem and compete to secure grapes from fewer than a dozen Rockpile growers each year. A bountiful level of vibrant fruit captures the most soft and more refined tannins the Rockpile Zinfandel. 14 months of barrel aging in 100% French Oak, of which about 20% new, has created additional textures and dimensions, while still respecting this distinctive Rockpile fruit. The 2016 Rockpile Zinfandel showcases ripe raspberries, cola, spice, and wild berry brambles.  Sweet tobacco and cocoa powder add complexity. Bright berry flavors linger throughout a long, long smooth finish.  The round, supple tannins and concentrated flavors speak to the specificity of the Rockpile terroir. This juicy Zinfandel demonstrates elegance and balance.
