Capo Creek Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

Home > Region > Region - California > Capo Creek Ranch Old Vine Zinfandel 2020

I am always impressed by what people did before the wine world.  Here’s two sisters – Mary and Nadine Roy who owned and operated a radiology business in Illinois and now have been running Capo Creek Ranch for the last 4 years. Mary Roy is the mother of six and previous owner/lead physician of Midwest Center for Advanced Imaging, specializing in MRI and Women’s Imaging. Nadine Roy was a co-owner and executive director of that business and has now been certified as a sommelier and works alongside her sister, the winemaker.

This estate old vine zinfandel from Dry Creek Valley is full of juicy fruit flavors dominated by dark cherry, black raspberry & pomegranate. Red licorice and a touch of spice from choice oak barrels balance it nicely and adds a complexity that makes every sip a delight. 350 cases produced.

The name of the Carol Shelton Karma Zinfandel 2016 was bestowed in gratitude for the many gifts of good Karma received in life, whatever the source.  When positive energy is put forth in hard work mixed with integrity, the giver is rewarded with success, the fulfillment of a dream. Quite lively and fragrant with ripe blueberry, raspberry and blackberry fruits, tart pomegranate and red Jolly ranchers! Cedar box, brown spices- nutmeg/cinnamon, cherry cola, dark chocolate, a soft whiff of violets, creamy vanilla oak, kick of pepper spice. Very complexly layered weaving of fruit and spice, uber-dense and deep—wow! Rich in mouth, bright berry fruit tang like a wonderful berry cobbler, good structure for aging, a bit chewy in its youth. 235 cases produced.

  • Trecini 2016 Rockpile Zinfandel

    $51.00

One of the regions finest appellations for growing Zinfandel is the heralded ‘Rockpile’ AVA in the northern realms of the Dry Creek Valley. Rockpile is unique in that there are no wineries within the borders of the AVA. However, winemakers have long considered this region a hidden gem and compete to secure grapes from fewer than a dozen Rockpile growers each year. A bountiful level of vibrant fruit captures the most soft and more refined tannins the Rockpile Zinfandel. 14 months of barrel aging in 100% French Oak, of which about 20% new, has created additional textures and dimensions, while still respecting this distinctive Rockpile fruit. The 2016 Rockpile Zinfandel showcases ripe raspberries, cola, spice, and wild berry brambles.  Sweet tobacco and cocoa powder add complexity. Bright berry flavors linger throughout a long, long smooth finish.  The round, supple tannins and concentrated flavors speak to the specificity of the Rockpile terroir. This juicy Zinfandel demonstrates elegance and balance.

  • Rabble Zinfandel 2019

    $27.00

The Rabble Zinfandel 2019 comes from the Mossfire Ranch in Paso Robles.  Aged in French and American oak, it is 100% Zinfandel.  Atypical for Paso Robles Zinfandel, this gem exudes spicy raspberries in a dusty field of lavender and lilac. Opulence; an engulfing mouth feel of velvet cherries, rhubarb, brittle chocolate and finely crushed peppercorn. The finish is uplifting, with layers of bright acidity dancing on fine lush tannin. Part Primitivo in style, part California Zinfandel, this is the progeny of a dusty Paso Robles farmer and a stunning Italian minx.
