Trentadue Chocolate Amore, Alexander Valley$25.00Add to cart
This opulent dessert wine is produced from Merlot grapes grown on Trentadue’s Geyserville Ranch. Borrowing from the traditions of port making, they add neutral grape spirits to stop fermentation trapping a percentage of sugar in the wine. Once Chocolate Amore is finished aging and is ready for bottling, they infuse a tiny amount of natural chocolate extract to the final blend, creating the perfect marriage of food and wine. This Merlot-based, port-styled chocolate flavored dessert wine is great over vanilla ice cream or as a stand-alone dessert. You’ll be very popular when you bring it to the next dinner party!
Stolpman Angeli 2016, Ballard Canyon$76.00Add to cart
In 2001, Tom Stolpman asked his winemaker to blend the few best barrels and create a wine in honor of his wife, Marilyn, and her Italian heritage. Through this wine, the Angeli family of Lucca would live on. By 2002 he identified the very top part of the Block 5 ridgeline as the vineyard’s standout micro section. Ever since, he has selected the best barrels of this block for Angeli. Not only will the 2016 blossom in the cellar, it blows us away today, right out of the gate. Our favorite type of wine, Angeli combines intense, bright perfume with ripe, rich, and mouth-filling robustness. It’s delicate and pretty while powerful and lasting. 2016 Angeli might be the most hedonistic of the altogether pleasurable, yummy 2017 vintage. Richer and deeper than the higher toned Angeli of the past few years, the 2017 offers immediate gratification. “In every wine we make, our goal is to combine ripe richness with savory liveliness – interesting wines that coat the palate and leave one yearning for more. In 2016, not only did we nail this balance, but the exquisite tight-rope of fresh red fruit and deep ripe yumminess are palpable upon release. No need to wait for tannins to soften or the mid-palate to flesh out, Angeli is a wow wine right out of the gate. In one of our best vintages to date, Angeli already flaunts its pedigree as the best wine of the vintage.” Tom Stolpman.
Bonny Doon Cigare du Volant 2014$55.00Add to cart
Starting in late 1954 people throughout France began reporting UFO sightings. The sightings were popularized by heavy media attention, and became a concern for the citizens of France. The most common shape of the crafts reported were cigar shaped, called “Cigare Volant.” The people of Chateauneuf du Pape were so concerned by the sightings and the effects the UFOs may have on their wine, that the mayor banned the UFOs from landing in their vineyards. Tipping his hat to this story and the famous wine, Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon Vineyards named his Chateauneuf style wine Le Cigare Volant. The 30th Anniversary release of this, their flagship wine. A beautiful wine—dark and mulberry in color as in nose. One scents cool loamy earth with suggestions of raspberries and Damson plums. I do so love the largely Grenache vintages of Cigare; there’s an unmistakable spiciness to them—orange peel, cinnamon and black pepper. Grenache is not just about fragrance however; any synesthete worth his/her Maldon salt will know that the scent of Grenache is in part highly textural—soft and velveteen. And sure enough, on the palate the wine is also an essence of velours. “Exceptional” – Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences | “The classic Rhone-ish expression of Randall Grahm's fascination with wines of personality, the blend here is 55% grenache, 25% syrah, 16% mourvèdre, 4% cinsault. I have tasted many older versions of this wine and this one is set up to age a long time.” 93 Points – Wine Enthusiast.
