Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2015

Home > Country > Country - Italy > Col d’Orcia Brunello di Montalcino 2015

Col d’Orcia is a traditional producer of Brunello di Montalcino. The choice to continue using the large Slavonian oak barrels was taken many years ago, well before the debate between modernist and traditionalist producers even started. Tradition means respecting the essence of Sangiovese from Montalcino which is the aging potential and the improvement of the wine through its long passage in wood and the subsequent aging in the bottle. Still today, at Col d’Orcia, we age our Brunello di Montalcino for a full 3 years in the large barrels before bottling and keep the bottles in cellar at least 1 year before releasing the wine to the market. The fruit comes from the hill overlooking the Orcia River, facing South-South/West and exposed to sun all day long.
Ruby red with violet hues. The nose is complex and elegant, with red fruity notes like cherry and sour cherry and spicy aromas. Balanced and structured with pleasantly ripe tannins. The finish is long, fruity and lasting.

This opulent dessert wine is produced from Merlot grapes grown on Trentadue’s Geyserville Ranch. Borrowing from the traditions of port making, they add neutral grape spirits to stop fermentation trapping a percentage of sugar in the wine. Once Chocolate Amore is finished aging and is ready for bottling, they infuse a tiny amount of natural chocolate extract to the final blend, creating the perfect marriage of food and wine. This Merlot-based, port-styled chocolate flavored dessert wine is great over vanilla ice cream or as a stand-alone dessert. You’ll be very popular when you bring it to the next dinner party!

In 1975, John Williams and Jim Holmes planted the first vineyard on Red Mountain, in Washington, an area now known for producing some of the world’s most powerful, opulent wines of distinction. For three generations they've worked side by side, hand in hand to craft exciting, vineyard-driven wines that capture the essence of Red Mountain and the Columbia Valley. Kiona Estates Cuvée 2016 is a blend from all of their estate vineyards. Each site contributes to the wine in a special way, resulting in an estate-grown wine that is uniquely representative of Washington state. The Columbia Valley components bring acid, fruit, and drinkability, while the Red Mountain additions contribute depth, structure, and color. This nuanced, multi-faceted, food-pairing superstar shows that Washington wines pack a serious punch at every price point. This classic blend showcases smooth, refined tannins and a long finish. Supple dark berry and earth on the palate round out the experience. Selective blending from some of Washington’s finest vineyards along with careful oak aging yields a balanced, intricate wine. They are able to sell it inexpensively because they sell grapes to about 60 other wineries, and make their money there.
