Edmeades Zinfandel 2013, Perli Vineyard

Home > Region > Region - California > Edmeades Zinfandel 2013, Perli Vineyard

As you may know, getting the Edmeades single vineyard Zinfandels is becoming increasingly difficult!  Edmeades is pure Mendocino. It is the authentic taste of one of California’s viticultural frontiers — Mendocino County. Edmeades is famous for its limited bottlings of iconoclastic Zinfandel from the cool, coastal vineyards of Mendocino County.  Dr. Edmeades planted his first 11 acres of vineyards in 1963. He founded his winery and launched his own brand in 1972.

Planted in the late 1800s by Santo and Rosie Perli, immigrants from Italy, Perli Vineyard is located in the vast Mendocino Ridge appellation. The vineyards range from 1,800 to 2,200 feet above sea level. Only seven miles from the Pacific Ocean, it is above the fogline on most days. The grapes are planted on very steep slopes, giving the fruit unusual concentration and intensity, with tiny, low-yielding berries packing plenty of flavor.

Aromas of fresh blackberries, black currants, cedar, and spicy forest hardwoods blend together in the glass. On the palate, blackberry liqueur and plum flavors are complimented by a slightly smoky and meaty character. The wine has ripe, soft tannins, and a mouthwatering acidity.

This historic vineyard has been meticulously farmed by the Morisoli family for over a century. Each year, since 1987, Elyse Winery has been fortunate to produce a Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel from this very special place in Napa Valley.

The 2014 Morisoli Zinfandel is aromatically teasing with scents of crushed berries, violets, bacon and cinnamon. It is lush all the way across the palate with bright but deep flavors of raspberry, blackberry and cassis with a creamy texture and ripe, leathery sweet tannins.

The Mauritson 2017 Dry Creek Zin is a little bit riper than previous vintages, but it carries its concentration and dried-fruit elements with incredible poise. Black-fruit aromas dusted with sweet baking spices co-mingle with star anise. The entry has inviting fruit, followed by a dense and full-bodied mid-palate witchewy tannins and a nice long finish with beautiful freshness. Enjoy for the next 7-10 years

    $41.00

Korte Ranch is located just north of the town of St. Helena along the Napa River on Ehlers Lane. It is truly one of the most distinctive and classic Zinfandel vineyards left in Napa Valley with the vines that Elyse Winery sources from being a minimum of 70 years old. It has been family owned for four generations and was a bonded winery before prohibition. The gnarly old head trained, dry farmed vines are planted where the eastern and western hillsides meet. This beautiful property is perfectly suited for high quality grape growing from the cool morning and nighttime temperatures to the loose soils of rocky loam which help make wine of unique and bold character. The Elyse Zinfandel 2016, Korte Ranch is beautifully deep garnet colored with intriguing aromas of black plum, blackberry pie, caramel, cinnamon, galangal root, incense, clove and orange zest. Lavishly textured with generous flavors of sweet blackberry, blueberry, cassis and the slightest hint of cracked black pepper and spice. Smooth entry with a broad mouthfeel, rich fruit and well integrated tannins lead to a finish that is long and lingering. 92 Points Wine Enthusiast. 1165 cases made.
