Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon 2015
The Educated Guess Cabernet Sauvignon 2015 is rich, ripe, and well-structured with flavors of juicy blackberry and cherry fruit, creamy milk chocolate, and dusty notes all tied together with a toasty oak finish that in a word is…lingering. With just a touch of Merlot, Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc, Educated Guess fills all the requirements that a serious Cabernet lover is looking for while remaining fun, approachable, and food-friendly!
Tangent Chardonnay 2013$12
Tangent sourced all the fruit from Paragon Vineyard, and there is a definite sense of the terroir here–all minerally signal, unsullied by oaky, buttery noise. Bright, fresh and crisp with a rich mid-palate. Aromas of pear and apricot continue in the mouth, alongside honeydew melon and and a subtle hint of marshmallow. The finish is long and lean, showcasing the wine’s bracing minerality. A perfect accompaniment to a range of dishes, from a simple roast chicken to cassoulet, but with wine this good and this affordable, you should feel free to crack a bottle whenever the mood strikes.
Volker Eisele Family Estate Terzetto Red Blend 2013, Chiles Valley Napa USA$75
Volker Eisele Family Estate is situated in the Chiles Valley District, one of fifteen grape growing appellations within the Napa Valley Viticultural Area. Cloaked in frequent Pacific fog, Chiles Valley is one of the cooler areas of the Napa Valley resulting in a long growing season. The valley's perfect cabernet climate enhances the development of wines with subtle flavors, full body, and overall complexity. The four hundred acre estate was originally part of the “Rancho Catacula” land grant, given to Joseph Bollinger Chiles in 1843 by the last Mexican governor of California. The Chiles family later sold a portion of their land to Francis Sievers, a German pioneer. In the 1870's, Sievers founded Lomita's Vineyard and Winery on the site. The original winery building, some of the tanks, and the original press constructed by Sievers still remain on the Estate. The oldest cabernet vines were planted by the Eiseles in 1975 and continue to yield fruit of superb quality. Over the past 35 years the Eiseles have enriched the vineyard soils through use of organic farming practices. No herbicides, pesticides or chemical fertilizers have been used. The vineyard is certified as organic by both the California Certified Organic Farmers and the California Department of Food and Agriculture. The Volker Eisele Terzetto is a blend of 1/3 Cabernet Sauvignon, 1/3 Cabernet Franc and 1/3 Merlot, aged 24 months in 70% new French oak from Treuil Cooperage, unfined and lightly filtered.
“The 2013 Terzetto Proprietary Red is a blend of equal parts Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Merlot, which are co-fermented from their vineyard in Chiles Valley. Nice raspberry and blueberry fruit, sweet tannin, velvety texture, medium to full body, beautiful purity, a floral component and overall a lovely, seductive and compelling style. Drink it over the next 10 years.”
