Ghost Block Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Oakville, CA

Home > Region > Region - California > Ghost Block Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Oakville, CA

The fruit for the 2017 Ghost Block Cabernet Sauvignon primarily (82%) comes from the family-owned Rock Cairn vineyard. The 30- year-old vineyard in Oakville, Napa Valley is 100% Certified Organic. Intense, overt aromas of dark plum and black cherry burst from the glass. This wine has a beautiful balance between tannin and fruit. The palate has enticing flavors of darker red fruits—black cherry, cassis, and cranberry. The structure & body is lengthened in your mouth by the well-integrated oak notes that frame this wine. The soft and silky tannins allow for a long-lasting finish, making this wine friendly and attractive to every type of winedrinker!

The wine is deep, dark red in color with aromas of black cherry, tobacco, and cedar box. This is a rich and complex hillside Cabernet with notes of earth, blackberry, and Christmas spice along with velvety tannins and a soft vanilla finish. We recommend 20-30 minutes of decanting to fully showcase its soft flavors and lingering finish of dark fruit.

Sean Minor was born in Kansas but he began his career in the wine industry after a formal education in finance from Arizona State University where he also met his wife, Nicole. They moved to California after graduation, where he began working for Napa Valley’s Beaulieu Vineyard. At the same time he took classes at U.C. Davis in Viticultural and Enology in hopes of developing a further understanding of grape growing and wine production. Then Sean moved to the Pacific Northwest after being recruited by King Estate Winery (widely renown for producing Oregon’s largest and most highly regarded Pinot Noir and Pinot Gris) to manage the Estate. He met Will Bucklin, King Estate’s then winemaker, and developed an even stronger knowledge of winemaking and gained a lifelong friend. Sean learned firsthand the importance of site-specific viticulture, and ended up leaving King Estate to lead Benton Lane Winery then the family returned to California in 2001 where Sean had the opportunity to manage Renwood Winery and enhance his wine experience growing and marketing some of the Golden State’s best Zinfandel and Syrah. Four years later, he founded Sean Minor Wines.

This lovely Paso Robles Cabernet Sauvignon is ruby in color and displays aromas of lavender, cedar and raspberry fruit. Flavors of blackberries and raspberries combined with hints of savory spices coat the palate. The soft tannins and sweet oak balance lead to a long and lingering finish.

  • 2017 Sharecropper’s Cabernet Sauvignon, Columbia Valley

    $22.00

During the economic recession of 2001, and Owen Roe’s first couple vintages as a winery, Washington growers were facing hardship in selling their fruit, come harvest time. At Owen Roe, they wanted to help our farming friends and prevent missing out on such well-tended, beautiful fruit. We were presented with the difficult and costly purchasing of grapes to process, cellar and bottle, waiting several months to recover our costs on the finished wine. To overcome this obstacle, we decided to bring back the historical business practice of sharecropping, resulting in the aptly named wine, “Sharecropper’s.” This partnership meant that Owen Roe would take the fruit, make the wine and once it was sold, share the profits with our growers. This remains an important part of our history and due to the success of this wine; we are now able to pay our growers upfront. Everyone’s favorite go-to weeknight Cab does not disappoint in 2017. Sweet aromas of blackberry, candied fruit, vanilla and brown sugar leads to a more savory palate of pomegranate, green pepper and oil cured olives. This Cabernet finishes with bright acidity and lingering tannins. We recommend opening this wine now and enjoying it at a young age, however, this will age well for 4-6 years when properly cellared.
