Inglenook Rubicon 2018

Home > Region > Region - California > Inglenook Rubicon 2018

The production of Rubicon, Inglenook’s premier red wine, began in 1978 and restored the estate’s legacy of making world-class wines. Rubicon is an elegant blend from the finest vineyard blocks and showcases the highest potential of both the estate and the vintage. Under the guidance of Philippe Bascaules, Inglenook’s Director of Winemaking, Rubicon proudly takes its place alongside much older, revered vintages of Inglenook in collectors’ cellars around the world.

Strikingly rich in color and extract, the 2018 Rubicon is unquestionably a precocious, hedonistic wine. The exotic, well-knit aromas and flavors include ripe cassis, allspice, star anise, vanilla and black licorice. Upon entry, this full-bodied wine envelops the palate with its luxurious concentration and supple, silky tannins, supported by vibrant freshness from the balanced acidity, and perfectly-integrated French oak. Very long and expansive in the finish, the 2018 Rubicon will be memorable for decades to come.

“Subtle and complex red with blackberry, black truffle, sweet tobacco and mahogany.
Highlights of lavender and violets. Full-bodied and very tight with finesse and tension.
Very polished, fine tannins. Long finish. Delicious already, but best after 2022. James Suckling – 97 Points

During the economic recession of 2001, and Owen Roe’s first couple vintages as a winery, Washington growers were facing hardship in selling their fruit, come harvest time. At Owen Roe, they wanted to help their farming friends and prevent missing out on such well-tended, beautiful fruit. They were presented with the difficult and costly purchasing of grapes to process, cellar and bottle, waiting several months to recover the costs on the finished wine. To overcome this obstacle, they decided to bring back the historical business practice of sharecropping, resulting in the aptly named wine, “Sharecropper’s.” Now called Growers Guild, this partnership meant that Owen Roe would take the fruit, make the wine and once it was sold, share the profits with the growers. This remains an important part of their history and due to the success of this wine; they are now able to pay the growers upfront. Everyone’s favorite go-to weeknight Cab does not disappoint in the Growers Guild Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. Sweet aromas of blackberry, candied fruit, vanilla and brown sugar leads to a more savory palate of pomegranate, green pepper and oil cured olives. This Cabernet finishes with bright acidity and lingering tannins. We recommend opening this wine now and enjoying it at a young age, however, this will age well for 4-6 years when properly cellared.

Pure Paso Robles, this rich yet smooth Cabernet Sauvignon is loaded with elegant aromas of blackberry, blueberry, pepper and cassis which lead to flavors of dark red fruits with hints of cedar spice, cocoa powder and caramelized oak. These persistent flavors create a long lingering finish. While very accessible now, this wine will continue to evolve nicely for years to come. What a great treat – great taste and affordable price!
