J Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

Home > Region > Region - California > J Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2018

This year marks the fourteenth anniversary of J. Lohr’s heartfelt partnership with National Breast Cancer
Foundation, Inc. The Touching Lives initiative began when the Lohr family designated the J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon a commemorative release in honor of founder Jerry Lohr’s late wife. Carol Lohr passed away in 2008 due to complications from breast cancer.

Today, $3 from every purchase of J Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, whether at your local restaurant, wine shop, or online is donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Since the program’s inception, sales from J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard releases have supported early breast cancer detection, access to mammograms, patient navigation systems, and the delivery of HOPE Kits (a gift box of comforting items) to women undergoing breast cancer treatment. These programs continue to build on a partnership that has funded over 6,500 mammograms for women who otherwise would not be able to afford them.

The 2018 vintage of J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon expresses this classic valley floor site in an approachable way. Savory fruit elements wrapped in a barrel signature of hazelnut and cocoa powder. Firm and angular in structure with red and blue fruits on the finish.

Tucked into the foothills of Mount Saint Helena on the remote eastern edge of Sonoma County, Knights Valley experiences a moderated climate, offering a longer and later growing season that develops dark fruit aromatics. The 2014 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is bold with black forest fruit and spiced plum, offering undertones of roasted coffee and crushed rock. Caramel and anise come through on the palate accompanied by broad tannins and a rich and persistent finish.

  • Oakville Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Napa Valley USA

    $59.00

In 1903 the Pelissa family purchased 35 acres between the Napa River and the Napa Valley Railroad in Calistoga with a single $10 gold coin. Thus began one family's history in the Napa Valley. Today the same family owns approximately 1,000 acres in Napa Valley with over 300 acres designated as a preserve intact with its natural state and 635 acres farmed as certified organic vineyards.  Throughout the 20th century, the family grew and their experience expanded across the valley. Then in 1993 the heirs of the Pelissa family acquired the Oakville Winery property from Heublein – Inglenook.  The winery was originally built in 1877 by two Frenchmen, Jean Adolphe Brun and Jean Chaix and it was the 9th bonded winery in California. The “Brun and Chaix Oakville Winery” passed through various hands in the 20th century and when the Pelissa family acquired it they formed the Napa Wine Company and Bonded Winery #9. The winery and adjacent Pelissa Vineyard, totals 62 acres on the corner of Highway 29 and the Oakville Cross Road. In 2009 the first vintages of Oakville Winery Estate Cabernet Sauvignon and Zinfandel were released. This delicious Cabernet Sauvignon is a style that reflects modern Oakville, while at the same time captures the classic flavors of the region. Rich with notes of cassis, cherry, and ripe plum. A beautiful, well rounded mouth feel. Medium bodied with an elegant finish.Layers of dark red fruit flow effortlessly from this radiant, expressive Cabernet Sauvignon. 92 Pionts – Robert Parker.

  • Bonanza Lot 3 by Caymus

    $29.00

The Wagner Family, the founder of Caymus, is synonymous with rich and delicious Californa Cabernet. Their new Cabernet Sauvignon is called Bonanza, and it is a knockout! To give Chuck Wagner maximum flexibility in crafting this wine, it carries a California appellation and a lot number rather than a vintage. While the winery does not disclose fruit sourcing, our suspicion is that it likely contains a good amount of fruit from the Wagner family’s vineyards in the Suisun Valley. We would not be surprised if a bit of Napa fruit also found its way in! As you would expect, the Bonanza “Lot 1” is full of ripe fruits, including black cherry, blackberry and blueberry, along with telltale flavors of green herbs, a bit of tobacco, vanilla and milk chocolate. Medium ruby-red, this wine opens with scents of currants and dried roses, grape pomace, and freshly tilled soil. The nose is nuanced with toasty oak imparting a subtle smoked meat character. Flavors of blueberries and blackberries mix with the warmth of vanilla and toasted bread. Silky tannins and striking smoothness. Mouthwatering, lengthy finish trails off with the taste of unsweetened chocolate and cassis -a wine that is structured, compelling and totally delicious!
