Locations I

Home > Country > Country - Italy > Locations I

With over 2000 indigenous grape varieties to select and compose a blend, an exhaustive search was undertaken to pay homage to this historic region. Maintaining the integrity of the land was paramount while simultaneously considering the result of a dynamic and innovative wine. Powerful and rich fruit from Puglia (Torricella and Manduria) serves as the base with a lively vein of acidity from Barbera (Alba) that stabilizes things in just the right way. The Locations I (Italy) is a blend of Negroamaro and Nero d’Avola from the Southern region of Puglia combined with Barbera from Piemonte in the North. “The black-olive, blueberry and blackberry character, combined with stone and orange peel is very attractive. Full to medium body. Solid core of fruit and a flavorful, zesty finish” 92 Points James Suckling.

Patelin is French for village or community and the Patelin wines from Tablas Creek use fruit from neighboring vineyards as well as their own. The Tablas Creek Vineyard Patelin de Tablas is a blend of four red Rhône varietals: Syrah, Grenache, Mourvèdre and Counoise. The wine incorporates fruit from several of the top Rhône vineyards in Paso Robles, each vineyard selected for its quality. Like many red wines from the Rhône Valley, it is based on the dark fruit, mineral and spice of Syrah, with the brightness and fresh acidity of Grenache, the structure and meatiness of Mourvèdre and a small addition of Counoise for complexity. The 2018 Patelin de Tablas has a dark, Syrah-driven nose that is creamy, meaty, minerally, and a little bit wild. A little blue fruit lurks underneath and comes out with air. The mouth shows both Grenache and Syrah's influence, with black plum, boysenberry, chalky minerality and nice powdered sugar tannins that come out on the finish. Decant if you're drinking now, or age for up to a decade for secondary and tertiary flavors of meat and earth. Very Highly Recommended – Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences.

  • Kiona Estates Cuvee 2016, Columbia Valley

    $23.00

In 1975, John Williams and Jim Holmes planted the first vineyard on Red Mountain, in Washington, an area now known for producing some of the world’s most powerful, opulent wines of distinction. For three generations they've worked side by side, hand in hand to craft exciting, vineyard-driven wines that capture the essence of Red Mountain and the Columbia Valley. Kiona Estates Cuvée 2016 is a blend from all of their estate vineyards. Each site contributes to the wine in a special way, resulting in an estate-grown wine that is uniquely representative of Washington state. The Columbia Valley components bring acid, fruit, and drinkability, while the Red Mountain additions contribute depth, structure, and color. This nuanced, multi-faceted, food-pairing superstar shows that Washington wines pack a serious punch at every price point. This classic blend showcases smooth, refined tannins and a long finish. Supple dark berry and earth on the palate round out the experience. Selective blending from some of Washington’s finest vineyards along with careful oak aging yields a balanced, intricate wine. They are able to sell it inexpensively because they sell grapes to about 60 other wineries, and make their money there.

  • Mutt Lynch 2017 HellHound

    $28.00

Hellhound…a supernatural dog, mythical in nature, jet black and red with piercing yellow eyes, the guardian of the gates of hell. Legend has it that seeing a hellhound or hearing its howl is ominous. Stare into its eyes three times and death awaits. Just think of what will happen when you drink a glass of Mutt Lynch HellHound. Dark and violent, it is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon aged in Bourbon barrels. Certainly not for the faint of heart. This noble beast opens to aromas of toasty oak and blackberries. On the palate you’ll find notes of blackberries, cherries, tobacco and leather. The 2017 HellHound is full-bodied, with silky tannins and a nice finish. Available now for a great taste but will also age well. We’re at the mercy of this beauty of a beast. It’s big, bold and very tempting. Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? The obvious pairing is something from the grill–steak or even a great burger. But…a great pasta with sausage also comes to mind.
