Longboard 2021 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Home > White - All wines > White - Sauvignon Blanc > Longboard 2021 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Longboard 2021 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc is the fourtheenth vintage of this classical varietal. Winemaker/Owner (and surfer) Oded Shaked started making this wine after he realized that when he went to lunch, that is the wine he reached out to most often to start a springtime or summer meal. The Russian River Valley grows Sauvignon Blanc that shows tropical fruit but retains enough minerality to keep the wine balanced and vibrant. The wine was minimally processed, with only a small fraction spending time in older (neutral) oak barrels, just enough to add a light layer of creaminess over the core of pear, lychee and citrus flavors. There is a slight floral (Honeysuckle) note in the wine too. This style of Sauvignon Blanc aims to layer the minerality we love in wines from Europe with the great fruit character we are blessed with in California. When released, the wine shows mainly tropical fruit character, balanced by a lively acidity. As it ages over the next few years, some honey and apple pie character will start developing and adding richness and depth to the wine.

Paired with a fresh green salad with fennel shavings and succulent ruby grapefruit sections or with your favorite fresh seafood (try sashimi or a spicy Thai dish), this wine has proved to be quite versatile in pairing with imaginative cuisine.

The Happy Canyon label not only pays tribute to a unique AVA, but also signifies the signature style of Sauvignon Blanc at Fiddlehead. The place, Happy Canyon of Santa Barbara AVA is home to six founding vineyards planted 1996-2001, and is located on the eastern edge of the Santa Ynez AVA. Morning fog lifts to plentiful sunshine, and it is the ideal home to Bordeaux (including Sauvignon Blanc) and Rhone varietals. During Prohibition, a simple alcohol was produced in Happy Canyon and legend has it that folks would “take a trip up Happy Canyon” to purchase the beverage…and the name stuck. In the Fiddlehead Portfolio, it is the most versatile, richer-style Sauvignon Blanc, “with a French twist”. It marries fresh, ripe fruit with creamy, silky textures, much like a Pouilly Fumé style of the Loire Valley.  This Loire Valley inspired wine is most noted for its layers of aromatics and layers of texture. It flaunts a dried apricot perfume, with background hints of oregano and coriander. There is a rich touch of vanilla spice that is melded with Anjou pear and orange blossoms. Grapefruit and honey highlight a plush and lasting finish. A true cornucopia of flavor!  I even picked up a bit of crème brulee, which I’ve never tasted before in a Sauvignon Blanc.  Awesome!  1306 cases made.

  • Ehlers Sauvignon Blanc 2021

    $35.00

The Ehlers Sauvignon Blanc 2021 is 100% Sauvignon Blanc. Grapefruit, vanilla bean and orange blossoms are highlighted in the glass. The varietal is so interesting, so versatile, and complex. The warm 2020 weather resulted in riper aromas in the fruit that translates into juicy apricot, orange candy, yellow wildflowers, lemon rind, lime pie, and Anjou pears. The mouthfeel is full and flavorful. Despite the high acidity, the wine is well balanced and smooth, with a creamy end and juicy flavors like grapefruit, vanilla bean, and orange blossoms highlight in a glass of this wine. Although lovely and aromatic now, it will age well for 5-7 more years.

France’s most famous region for Sauvignon  Blanc is Sancerre in the Loire valley. The region’s rolling limestone hills and semi-continental climate deliver richly textured Sauvignon Blanc wines with ripe gooseberry aromas, bracing acidity, and flinty-smoke flavors. To achieve aromatic intensity, the Giraults press their grapes gently, ferment on native yeasts, and both vinify and age their wines in stainless steel tanks. Redolent of citrus blossom, white flowers and hints of leafy greens, the Domaine Girault Sancerre Beaux Regards 2019 is crisp, wonderfully perfumed and well-balanced with a long, lingering mineral finish.Clear pale gold color. Concentrated nose with notes of citrus and exotic fruits. Aromas full of finesse in the mouth. Fresh and well-balanced final.
