Longboard 2019 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Home > White - All wines > White - Sauvignon Blanc > Longboard 2019 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc

Longboard 2019 Russian River Valley Sauvignon Blanc is the twelth vintage of this classical varietal. Winemaker/Owner (and surfer) Oded Shaked started making this wine after he realized that when he went to lunch, that is the wine he reached out to most often to start a springtime or summer meal. The Russian River Valley grows Sauvignon Blanc that shows tropical fruit but retains enough minerality to keep the wine balanced and vibrant. The wine was minimally processed, with only a small fraction spending time in older (neutral) oak barrels, just enough to add a light layer of creaminess over the core of pear, lychee and citrus flavors. There is a slight floral (Honeysuckle) note in the wine too. This style of Sauvignon Blanc aims to layer the minerality we love in wines from Europe with the great fruit character we are blessed with in California. When released, the wine shows mainly tropical fruit character, balanced by a lively acidity. As it ages over the next few years, some honey and apple pie character will start developing and adding richness and depth to the wine.

Paired with a fresh green salad with fennel shavings and succulent ruby grapefruit sectuibs or with your favorite fresh seafood (try sashimi or a spicy Thai dish), this wine has proved to be quite versatile in pairing with imaginative cuisine.

The Happy Canyon “Piocho” Sauvignon Blanc 2019 exhibits floral aromas with a hint of brioche toast, honeysuckle, figs and a zesty citrus note. The Sauvignon Blanc provides a lift and perfect accompaniment to the Semillon with varietal aromas of grass and tropical fruit. The wine shows pear and apple with nice wood tones with creaminess on the mid-palate that gives way to a hint of vanilla. It delivers a very rich mouth feel with a good acid backbone. Smoothly balances energy and weight and finishes with excellent clarity and mineral-driven persistence.
This is a fantastic summer wine!.

  • Vina Robles Sauvignon Blanc 2019, Jardine Vineyard, Paso Robles

Vina Robles  sources their Sauvignon Blanc fruit from a small lot on the Jardine Vineyard. Although vigorous on the vine, during fermentation the wine can be sensitive to degradation so steps are taken to preserve the fragile varietal characteristics.

The grapes for the 2019 vintage were picked and delivered to the winery in the cool morning hours. Gently handled, the fruit was left on the skins with judicious use of inert gas during pressing. The wine was then cold fermented in stainless steel tanks to limit oxidation and preserve the aromatics. Following fermentation, the wine was kept on the lees to further enhance the characteristics and mouthfeel.

The color of the Vina Robles Sauvignon Blanc is reminiscent of light straw leading to aromas of guava and passion fruit, with hints of grapefruit and lemongrass. Enjoy the medium-bodied texture with fruit forward flavors that linger into a refreshing finish.
