Malm Reserve Cabernet 2016, Napa

Home > Region > Region - California > Malm Reserve Cabernet 2016, Napa

Brendan Malm grew up close to where I live here in Orange County, California and left at an early age for Sonoma to learn winemaking. Malm Cellars is a one-man show. Brendan Malm not only makes the wines, but he also works the vineyards, designs the labels, and delivers the wine to his accounts in his diesel pick-up truck. This is pure, seat-of-the-pants fantastic winemaking! With from Howell Mountain and Oak Knoll, the wine is rich full and smooth. This is a fully extracted wine with nice oak but not too much. Let this one out with a big full beefy meal for the best combo – or some excellent aged cheddar or gouda. Red fruit, very pure, sumptuous and intense. The acidity is off the charts, bringing a juicy vibrance and freshness. This is silly good, and one of the best finds for a Napa Cab!

This year marks the fourteenth anniversary of J. Lohr’s heartfelt partnership with National Breast Cancer Foundation, Inc. The Touching Lives initiative began when the Lohr family designated the J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon a commemorative release in honor of founder Jerry Lohr’s late wife. Carol Lohr passed away in 2008 due to complications from breast cancer.

Today, $3 from every purchase of J Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, whether at your local restaurant, wine shop, or online is donated to the National Breast Cancer Foundation. Since the program’s inception, sales from J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard releases have supported early breast cancer detection, access to mammograms, patient navigation systems, and the delivery of HOPE Kits (a gift box of comforting items) to women undergoing breast cancer treatment. These programs continue to build on a partnership that has funded over 6,500 mammograms for women who otherwise would not be able to afford them.

The 2015 vintage of J. Lohr Carol’s Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon expresses this classic valley floor site in an approachable way. Savory fruit elements wrapped in a barrel signature of hazelnut and cocoa powder. Firm and angular in structure with red and blue fruits on the finish.

    $65.00

Born in Lyon France and gaining his education from the University of Bordeaux, Benoit worked at numerous French wineries before getting a job (with the help of his friend and mentor Michel Rolland) in Napa Valley with Andy Erickson. He consulted for the likes of Screaming Eagle, Ovid and Arietta. Today, Benoit is the winemaker for Realm Cellars, Hartwell, and Kata, as well as numerous other labels, including his own project Fait-Main (which translates to “hand-made”). Benoit is the mastermind winemaker who has been awarded eight 100-point scores from Robert Parker for the wines he has produced for Realm, in addition to others we cherish and champion with pride: Jack Quinn, Kata and Fait-Main. He was Andy Erickson’s right hand man at Screaming Eagle back in the day and also the protégé of the world’s top consulting winemaker Michel Rolland. Let’s be crystal clear, he is a ‘Cabernet Genius’ and Teeter-Totter is no exception!

This beauty boasts a saturated purple color as well as a classic bouquet of creme de cassis, licorice, toasted spices, and tobacco. Deep, full-bodied, and powerful, it still has the class and purity of the 2019 vintage front and center.” The 2019 vintage is powerful, well balanced and boasting with fresh aromatics. Pops of blackberry, raspberry and vanilla first grab your attention then invites you into a bouquet of thyme, French lavender and violets. The tannins are soft and smooth, providing an effortless finish. Simply delicious!
