Masi Costasera Amarone, Veneto, Italy
Picture yourself floating down the canals of Venice with a beautiful sunset and a glass of Masi Costasera Amarone 2010. Proud, majestic, complex and exuberant: this is Masi's gentle giant. The product of Masi's unrivaled expertise in the appassimento technique, whereby traditional grapes for the Valpolicella Classica area – Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara – are laid out on bamboo racks to concentrate their aromas during the winter months. In the glass the wine is very dark ruby red. Inhale the baked fruit, plums and cherries, as you get ready for that wonderful sip full of fruity tastes, with hints of coffee and cocoa. Very well balanced. Excellent as an after-dinner wine, or to go with red meat, game, quails and richly flavored dishes. Very good with well-aged cheeses, such as parmesan, pecorino and gorgonzola. 94 Points James Suckling, 95 Points Wine Enthusiast, 92 Points Wine Spectator. 91 Points Parker.
