Mohua Sauvignon Blanc 2015
Fruit for the 2015 Mohua Sauvignon Blanc was sourced from a selection
of vineyards within the Lower Wairau Valley, Rapaura and Southern
Valley sub-regions of Marlborough. The fruit was harvested at optimum
maturity, gently pressed and cool fermented to stainless steel to retain
fruit flavor and freshness.
The 2015 Mohua Sauvignon Blanc shows lifted aromas of passion fruit
and lime. The palate is luscious with tropical fruit and bright citrus
characters. Melon, guava and grapefruit flavors combine with a fresh
acidity to give a long lingering finish.
Happy Canyon “Piocho” Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Happy Canyon$25.00
The Happy Canyon “Piocho” Sauvignon Blanc 2016 exhibits floral aromas with a hint of brioche toast, honeysuckle, figs and a zesty citrus note. The Sauvignon Blanc provides a lift and perfect accompaniment to the Semillon with varietal aromas of grass and tropical fruit. The wine shows pear and apple with nice wood tones with creaminess on the mid-palate that gives way to a hint of vanilla. It delivers a very rich mouth feel with a good acid backbone. Smoothly balances energy and weight and finishes with excellent clarity and mineral-driven persistence.
This is a fantastic summer wine!.
Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2016$25.00
Banshee Wines was founded by three friends from the Midwest and East Coast who shared a passion for wine and a lifelong dream of owning their own winery. Their fascination with wine started early in life. While their peers were drinking Milwaukee’s Best, they had an affinity towards collecting European wines and hosting dorm room wine tastings. Post-college, each pursued a career in the wine industry, ranging from importing wines, to winemaking, to distribution and sales. When their paths ultimately converged in San Francisco in 2009, they pooled their money together to make the first vintage of Banshee Wines. After a few years, they migrated up to Healdsburg, where they’ve developed strong relationships with the owners and growers of some of the best and most coveted vineyards in Sonoma, working in lock step with them to produce wines of depth, purity and balance. They strive to makes wines with the complexity and deliciousness of those found at the very top of the quality and price scale, but at a price that is affordable for everyone and not just the uber-wealthy.
The Banshee Sauvignon Blanc 2016 comes from a combination of vineyards in the Russian River and Dry Creek valleys. These areas are perfect for the style of Sauvignon Blanc we all love – a combination of sufficient daytime warmth to develop exuberant fruit flavors and plenty of morning/evening coolness to preserve lip smaking structure and vital tart and green-tinged flavors.
In addition, they like to utilize the charms of the musque´ variation of Sauvignon Blanc to highligh the lifted perfume and floral aspects it brings. About 30% of this wine is porwered up by musque´ (think X-Men).
The wine is immediately charming for its floral bouquet of lilacs and daisies. This leads into a medium weight blend of honeydew, lime, pear, and sea salt flavors. These flavors linger on the fresh, well-integrated citrus line that runs through the long, tangy finish.
Long Meadow Ranch Sauvignon Blanc 2015, Rutherford, Napa Valley$24.00
Long Meadow Ranch employs an integrated organic farming system using simple, sustainable methods. Each part of the Ranch contributes to the health of the whole. Vineyards and wine making, olive orchards and olive oil making, cattle and horse breeding all work together in complementary fashion, as do the egg-laying poultry flock and the organic vegetable gardens. All crops are certified organic.
The 2015 Sauvignon Blanc was harvested in two different periods – one at lower sugars and one at higher sugars. All of the grapes were ripe, but each pick offered different nuances. We loved all the separate wine lots and enjoyed the synergy of blending. This wine has classic LMR varietal freshness and charm; it’s difficult to believe this wine was grown in Cabernet country. Its fruits range from citrus to kiwi to just-ripe peach. The salty and mineral characteristics which grow out of our terroir and cold fermentations have become signature and reliable. The finish is crisp, full-of-esters and balanced.
