Molly Dooker “The Boxer” Shiraz 2017

Home > Red - All wines > Red - Syrah and Petite Sirah > Molly Dooker “The Boxer” Shiraz 2017

Complex and expressive, the 2017 Boxer exudes vivacity while maintaining great length. Bright maraschino cherry, fresh plum, rich dark chocolate and liquorice max out the flavour spectrum. The tannins are fine, the fruit is soft and the flavors tickle the taste buds. Consistently impressive and seriously good, this wine is not short of character. Bold, powerful, full body texture. Intense fruity flavors of ripe blackberry, plum, elderberry and dark bitter chocolate with intermittent tastes of clove. Fresh acidity, firm well integrated tannins and an explosive fruity finish. WOW, WOW a Shiraz that gives a whole new meaning to the term BIG and POWERFUL wine. The bold flavors are a perfect complement for the salt in stir fry soy sauce. Clearly not California sweet and clearly not from the Rhone Valley, but there was lots of BRIGHT sun on these Australian grapes and it’s POTENT fruit and IMPETUOUS taste really identifies its origin…there is nothing else quite like it!!!  A vibrant Australian Shiraz that is a fantastic bargain!

The Owen Roe Ex Umbris was introduced as a one-time bottling in 2002 after a wild fire struck the vineyard’s surrounding hillsides. The residual ash and smoke resonated in the Syrah grapes, creating a very memorable wine. Year after year, they are asked to develop a Syrah to keep the story of this wine alive! Now, more than 10 vintages later, we hope you will enjoy this bold Syrah comprised from several exceptional vineyards in the Columbia and Yakima Valleys. The Ex Umbris 2017 is a great expression of the bold fruit flavors from that year. Bursting with aromas of red plum, blueberry and pink peppercorn. The palate is filled with refreshing flavors of fresh summer blackberries, currant, and dark chocolate with noticeably structured acidity and silky tannins.

  • Truchard Estate Syrah 2018, Carneros

    $34.00

The 2018 vintage is nearly identical to the outstanding 2017 harvest! A dry winter followed by a warm, dry spring resulted in excellent berry set and an above average crop. Moderate temperatures throughout the growing season easily brought the fruit to full maturity. The wines of 2018 are elegant, with intense aromas and flavors. A complex nose of cassis, ripe cherry, and black plum; with a hint of vanilla, leather, and white pepper. The mouth is layered with jammy flavors of blackberry, boysenberry, and currants; followed by mineral and cracked black pepper. Mouth-filling tannins provide an opulent finish of fruit and spice.

  • Andrew Murray Tous les Jours Syrah 2017

    $26.00

The Syrah Tous les Jours has become synonymous with Great Value. It has also garnered some incredible critical success in publications such as The Wine Spectator, Wine Enthusast, Food and Wine Magazine, Robert Parker, Jr., etc. The 2017 vintage is remarkably dark and full-bodied, and yet it has such gentle tannins. It is truly a pleasure to drink, especially at the price. Lots of fruit and spices here…no need to wax poetic about this one as it tastes just plain yummy.

We feel the wine makes an ideal “House Wine” the wine you open just for the heck of it, or just to pour a single glass, the rest to be enjoyed later. And at this price, why not? However, we do not skimp on the winemaking for this wine. We start with great grapes from Paso Robles and the Santa Ynez Valley and use the different climates to create a wine that is both fruity and spicy at the same time. Andrew Murray uses his experiences with both New World and Old World style winemaking to make the most drinkable Syrah imaginable.
