Opus One 2016

Home > Region > Region - California > Opus One 2016

Opus One is the realized dream of two men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi. Together, our founders set out to create a single wine dedicated to the pursuit of uncompromising quality. This singular mission shapes every vintage, today and for generations to come.

The Opus One 2016 is remarkably elegant and bright offering sumptuous aromas of fresh red and blue fruit, baking spices and vanilla, and a delicate fragrance of spring florals. The initial bouquet is augmented by more nuanced notes of sage, rosemary, and black olive. Juicy flavors of black cherry, blackberry and cassis flood the palate and creamy, fine-grained tannins deliver a delightfully round structure. Harmonious and lively, the flavors linger to create an enduring finish with touches of dark chocolate and espresso.

Cabernet Sauvignon 77%, Petit Verdot 8%, Merlot 8%, Cabernet Franc 5%, and Malbec 2%

Here’s your opportunity to help even more. 25% of each sale of the Compassion without Borders Wine goes directly to the Compassion without Borders non-profit group. Compassion without Borders focus their passionate efforts in Mexico and the Central Valley of California where the need is the greatest and where animals are the very least likely to be helped due to financial, geographic, and cultural barriers.  Their stunning label is paired with our outstanding 2015 Sonoma County red wine, selected from Brenda Lynch’s best barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon. Tight aromas of new French oak and hints of red and black fruits signal the wine’s youth. Bright fruit flavors combine with caramel and toasty oak in a structured mid palette that explodes into a chewy, dense finish with sweet, ripe tannins. Drinks great now!

  • Happy Canyon Piocho Bordeaux Red Blend 2018, Happy Canyon Valley, California, USA

    $37.00

Piocho Ranch was acquired by Thomas J. Barrack Jr. in 1992. Out of a love for the countryside and a ranchers life, the Barrack family developed rolling acres of vineyards. The peaceful and beautiful property sits nestled in the Happy Canyon Valley, a perfect location for growing grapes and riding horses. Two regulation sized Polo fields are groomed with the same care as the finest golf courses in the world. Piocho means “Where the two rivers meet and go to heaven.” The 2018 vintage is one of the greats. The fruit reached perfect physiological ripeness retaining natural grape acidity resulting in very balanced wines with low alcohol and rich concentrated varietal flavors. Aromatically, the wine is uplifting, with notes of plum, ceder, bing cherry, berry pie and hints of earth and red clay. On the palate the wine is fruitful, exuberant, with red plum and blackberry. The wine continues with fine-grain tannins, saddle leather and wonderful savory notes. The finish is long and satisfying with lingering dusty tannins and expressive resolved fruit. The wine is wonderful to drink today and will continue to evolve in balance, length and complexity as the more structured Cabernet Sauvignon matures. This wine will continue to develop and excel over the next ten years. This a truly lovely wine that is wonderful to drink today when paired with big rich cuisine such as Santa Maria Tri-Tip.  The wines structure will allow it to mature and age nicely for at least another decade! Dusty, slow-building tannins give grip to the finish, which repeats the cherry and licorice notes.
