Woodward Canyon Merlot 2015, Nelms Road, Walla Walla Valley$30.00
The very warm 2015 vintage gave beautifully ripe yet balanced fruit with deep flavors of black cherry, herb and baking spice. Complex aromas of roasted meat, black olive and tobacco integrate, leading to a soft generous finish. The wine is dark purple in color and though it was bottled early to retain fruit, is quite enjoyable now. This merlot will improve substantially with additional time in bottle and with proper storage should age well for five years or more.
Elyse Zinfandel 2013, Korte Ranch, Napa Valley, California, USA$41.00
Korte Ranch is located just north of the town of St. Helena along the Napa River on Ehlers Lane. This beautiful property is perfectly suited for high quality grape growing from the cool morning and nighttime temperatures to the loose soils of rocky loam which help make wine of unique and bold character. The Elyse Zinfandel 2013, Korte Ranch is beautifully deep garnet colored with intriguing aromas of black plum, blackberry pie, caramel, cinnamon, galangal root, incense, clove and orange zest. Lavishly textured with generous flavors of sweet blackberry, blueberry, cassis and the slightest hint of cracked black pepper and spice. Smooth entry with a broad mouthfeel, rich fruit and well integrated tannins lead to a finish that is long and lingering. 92 Points Wine Enthusiast. 1165 cases made.
Duckhorn Merlot 2014, Napa Valley$59.00
This wine displays all of the benefits of slow, even ripening during a mild growing season. Though there is fullness and a lush character to this Merlot, there is also restraint and elegance. Promising aromas of cherry, red plum, raspberry, and dried herbs lead to a clean fresh entry with impeccably balanced acidity supporting intense red fruit flavors of cranberry, plum and raspberry. Round, supple tannins provide an enticing framework for the flavors and contribute to a lingering finish. 90 Points Wine Spectator
