Pedroncelli Winery Mother Clone Zinfandel 2019, Dry Creek, Sonoma County USA

Home > Region > Region - California > Pedroncelli Winery Mother Clone Zinfandel 2019, Dry Creek, Sonoma County USA

Several years ago, I helped out in the tasting room at Pedroncelli Winery. I always marveled at how beautiful the country side was, even on rainy days, and the care that was shown to the land. Four generations of Pedroncellis have tended the land and grown the business even during prohibition when they continued to produce grapes for home consumption. I also marveled at the fact that they always kept their wines at a reasonable price even though they had a reputation for great wines and could have charged more.

John Pedroncelli, who was instrumental in building Sonoma County’s wine industry was just two years old when his family moved to Geyserville in 1927 and started making wine. Having graduated from UC Davis with a degree in oenology, Pedroncelli went on to produce 66 vintages at the Pedroncelli Winery and continued to consult for the winery up until his death. Pedroncelli pioneered affordable, approachable wines from the Dry Creek Valley and championed Zinfandel, making California’s first Zinfandel rosé.

The Pedroncelli Mother Clone 2019 Zinfandel is a classic Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel. Fragrant aroma of raspberry and red plum with a touch of black pepper and vanilla. Bing cherry and raspberry flavors framed by subtle black pepper spice. Well integrated flavors with round tannins and warm toasty oak in the finish.

    $55.00

Years ago, near the end of Prohibition, Aldo Biale made and sold wine in secret. He sold his jugs of Zin to friends and neighbors on the “down low”, and the phone started ringing regularly for re-orders. The Biale’s phone was a party line, so nosy neighbors could listen in on conversations, including orders for produce, eggs and a jug of Aldo’s homemade wine from barrels he hid in the barn. Since they also raised and sold chickens, the code word for the wine became Black Chicken, and that name continues to this day. Early harvest yields high quality wine grape crop. The Oak Knoll winegrowing region is prevalent in this wine with its ripe aromatics and juicy acidity. This wine is round and plush with perfectly ripe tannins and bright aromas of red and dark fruit – raspberries, cherries, and blackberries – star anise, black and white pepper, cocoa, and subtle, nuanced oak.

Now in its seventeenth vintage, Brown 2019 Chaos Theory continues to echo their journey through the world of wine, consistently proving that the best is yet to come, there’s always something to look forward to, and no matter how random or chaotic things may seem there is method and meaning to all that we do and experience. Simply put, all’s well that ends well!
Brilliant dark magenta core with ruby rim. Lively nose of ripe Rainier cherries, blackberry compote, winter spice, and heavy cream leads to Asian apple and Meyer lemon followed by dark chocolate, tiramisu, and fresh baked croissants/brioche. Time in the glass brings forth ripe black fruit and dark chocolate underpinning primary notes of graphite, pencil shavings, green pepper, vineyard dust, and anise. Silky mouthfeel, medium-bodied yet markedly vibrant. Over time the integration of its blended components will make this a wine to revisit again and again, each bottle revealing a new dimension as it evolves. 55% Napa Valley Cabernet Franc, 35% Brown Estate Cabernet Sauvignon, 10% Monte Rosso Zinfandel  3500 cases made.

  • Peterson Zinfandel 2017 Bradford Mountain

    Add to cart
    $39.00

This wine encapsulates all of the best qualities found in mountain grown Zinfandels from the Dry Creek Valley appellation. Poorer soils and colder nights harness and preserve more of the bright acidity and freshness in the grapes. More sunlight hours at the higher elevation means darker, richer fruit. Unlike benchland Zins, mountain Zins have a peppery quality and more black fruit character

A rich blend of ripe dark berries with traces of toasty oak provides an inviting entry. The luscious mouthfeel releases layers of concentrated fruit—plum, deep blackberry and dark cherry—punctuated by hints of spice and pepper. The Bradford Mountain terroir influences are evident in the threads of minerality that weave through this opulent wine, adding to its depth and complexity. 84% Zinfandel, 10% Carignane, 6% Petite Sirah.
