Ponzi Reserve Chardonnay 2014, Willamette Valley
The Chardonnay grapes for the Ponzi Reserve Chardonnay 2014 were grown at Ponzi’s Aurora and Avellana Vineyards, as well as Alloro Vineyard, all located in the Chehalem Mountains AVA. Chardonnay for this cuvée also comes from Thistle Vineyard in the Dundee Hills AVA. All fruit is LIVE or Certified Organic. The perfumed nose shows notes of white peach, rose petal, nectarine and ripe melon. The mouth is layered with flavors of shortbread, candied tangerine and warm spices. The lemon chiffon finish is long and silky. This is a delicious Chardonnay – ready to jump into warm weather and grilled fish dinners!

Steven Kent Merrillie Chardonnay 2016, Mission Ranch, Arroyo Seco$34.00
The Mirassou family – the oldest winemaking family in the United States – have been pioneers in a number of important ways. One of the most relevant in terms of this new Chardonnay release is that they were the first family to plant vineyards in modern-day Monterey County in 1961. Aged on the lees for about 10 months and barrel-fermented in about 50% new French oak, three sub-lots of Chardonnay were blended and bottled without filtration or fining. Each sub-lot (of roughly equal size) was fermented with a different yeast regimen. For one portion we did “native” fermentation (letting the ambient yeast environment ferment the must) while the other lots were fermented with one of our favored cultured
yeasts: CY-3079 and QA23. Each lot was wonderfully individualistic, differing in flavor, aroma, and texture. Together, they created a wine of finesse and elegance; mouth-filling richness underscored by precise, length-producing acidity.
Mer Soleil Silver 2017$25.00
We believe that the Santa Lucia Highlands appellation in Monterey County is one of the best appellations in the world for producing Chardonnay. This region benefits from cool morning fog and afternoon breezes that result in a long growing season, producing intense fruit flavors balanced with vibrant acidity. Mer Soleil Silver 2016 is a pure, clean expression of estate-grown Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay. A pale yellow hue, the wine is well balanced with great structure. Bright minerality, pink grapefruit and key lime characters shine through on the nose, followed by lemon zest and stone-fruit. The mid-palate displays intriguing notes of lemon meringue, quince and citrus, complemented by a crisp acidity that carries through from start to finish. The ceramic bottle reflects the small cement fermentation vessels that they use to give the wine its fully rounded mouthfeel. The higher acidity in this wine makes it a perfect accompaniment to a wide array of food, particularly salads, grilled seafood, tomato-based dishes and fresh oysters.
Talbott Logan Chardonnay 2016$31.00
More than any other vineyard, Sleepy Hollow has helped put Monterey and the Santa Lucia Highlands on the map as world-renowned winegrowing regions. With panoramic views of the Salinas Valley and beyond, Sleepy Hollow is perched on an ex pansive benchland 13 miles from Monterey Bay. The well-drained vineyard features sparse soils comprised of sand, gravel, and granite. These soils reduce yields and create rich, concentrated flavors in the grapes. The vineyard receives morning sunlight from its east-northeast exposure, and lives much of the time in the cool fog and w ind from the Pacific Ocean. With a long, cool growing season, the grapes develop the character, intensity and depth of flavor for which the vineyard has become famous.
The Talbott Logan Chardonnay 2016 is representative of the world-class Chardonnay consistently produced from the celebrated Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. This wine offers ar omas of jasmine, sandalwood and vanilla along with richer notes of brioche and butterscotch. On the palate, lively minerality adds complexity to characteristics of gr een apple, Crenshaw melon, ripe Bosc pear and Meyer lemon accented by notes of butter and cream. Rich and vibrant, this elegant Chardonnay has a satiny smooth fi nish with alluring hints of cinnamon and hard spices.
