Truchard Estate Merlot 2016, Carneros$34.00Add to cart
This Merlot is harvested from five separate hillside locations throughout the Truchard Estate Vineyard. The wines from these hillsides each have their own identity, and each contributes different characteristics to the final blend. Cabernet Franc is added in to provide additional softness and complexity. Spiced aromas of ripe plum, wild blueberry, and cassis with a touch of cedar, earth, and subtle mint. The mouth is smooth and round – layered with bright flavors of black cherries, red currants, and sweet vanilla. Ripe tannins fill the palate and provide an elegant finish of dried red fruits.
Mutt Lynch 2015 HellHound$25.00Add to cart
Hellhound…a supernatural dog, mythical in nature, jet black and red with piercing yellow eyes, the guardian of the gates of hell. Legend has it that seeing a hellhound or hearing its howl is ominous. Stare into its eyes three times and death awaits. Just think of what will happen when you drink a glass of Mutt Lynch HellHound. Dark and violent, a hellish blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Certainly not for the faint of heart. This noble beast opens to aromas of toasty oak and blackberries. On the palate you’ll find notes of blackberries, cherries, tobacco and leather. The 2015 HellHound is full-bodied, with silky tannins and a nice finish. Available now for a great taste but will also age well. We’re at the mercy of this beauty of a beast. It’s big, bold and very tempting. Who’s afraid of the big bad wolf? The obvious pairing is something from the grill–steak or even a great burger. But…a great pasta with sausage also comes to mind.
2015 Trecini Merlot, Russian River Valley, California, USA$35.00Add to cart
The 2015 Trecini Merlot comes from the Dunn Vineyard, which sits in the low-lying eastern foothills of Sonoma County in a slightly warmer region of the Russian River Valley. The vines grow in well drained gravely soils on a westerly facing slope which allowed the grapes to ripen slowly and capture the last bit of the sun’s afternoon warmth, an essential factor in this much cooler vintage. Memorable, the Merlot brings a richer mouth-feel, with a rich velvet texture. The lower alcohol allows for these deeper complex textures and dimensions to come together and produce a distinctive classic Merlot more reminiscent of Europe than California. Trecini Merlot shows off delicious red fruit characters, with some whiffs of dried herbs and a touch of tobacco. Suitable for drinking now, we believe that this wine has enough natural acidity and structure to be consumed for several years to come.
