Home > Region > Region - California > Rock and Clay Namesake Chardonnay 2017, Carneros

Namesake Vineyard is located at the western edge of the Carneros Region where winds from the Pacific and from San Pablo Bay moderate temperatures during the growing season. The vineyard is located on Meadowlark Lane, and “Namesake” refers to the meadowlarks which frequent the vineyard each spring. The vineyard was originally planted over 30 years ago with Martini clone 4, and now features a mixture of the original vines and other Chardonnay clones. The soil of the vineyard site is Haire clay loam which provides the vines with a heavy, mineral-rich clay, interlaced with seams of streambed rocks. Medium gold in color.  The Rock and Clay Namesake Chardonnay 2017 has lovely yellow apple and citrus aromas accented with spice and mineral notes.  Mouthfilling fruit flavors with persistent citrus finish.

The 2018 Mutt Lynch mbf Chardonnay delivers elegance and balance. Some might call it refined. Having the color of golden straw, the 2018 vintage opens to lovely citrus notes. On the palate, there are fruit forward flavors of lemon and green apple. It’s crispness and structure come from medium acidity. Brenda’s winemaking skills have rendered a medium-bodied wine with a lush mouthfeel and a lovely medium-length finish. Try it with your favorite crab cakes, or with some fresh-caught salmon. Some of the best Chardonnays in Washington State are grown in the slightly cooler growing conditions of the Yakima Valley and in the northern latitudes of the Columbia Valley. The Schmitt and Oasis Vineyards (Yakima Valley) provide nice tropical fruit while Evergreen Vineyard (latitude 47 on the Columbia River) contributes crisp acidity and minerality.

This classic Chardonnay offers an inviting mix of baked apple, Asian pear, and stone. With lemon oil and brioche on the mid-palate, this wine lively builds to a long mineral finish.
