Saini Zinfandel, Dry Creek 2016
The Sainis are 4th generation Sonoma County grape growers that have been farming grapes in both the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys for over 100 years. Renowned for their integrity, attention to detail and impeccable farming skills; their passion for quality coupled with their experience and familiarity with the land they farm sets them apart from the rest.
Their legacy began in 1908, when Great Grandfather Michele Saini came to the United States from Genova, Italy. He made his living as a garbage man, driving a team of horses through the streets of San Francisco. In 1917, Michele bought a ranch in the Dry Creek Valley with his brother-in-law John Cuneo and started a partnership named Cuneo & Saini The land they purchased produced crops such as pears, apples, prunes, and wine grapes. In 1934, Cuneo & Saini purchased another ranch in Alexander Valley. They built a solid reputation as grape growers, selling to some of the best wineries in Sonoma County. The family business would further evolve with 4th generation Mike Saini having the dream of making wine under his own label from grapes grown on his family’s land. In 2008 this became a reality with the launch of Saini Vineyards. To complete the wonderful combination, fantastic winemaker, Julia Iantosca, was brought on board a couple of years ago and the wines are just amazing!
Layer after layer of bold berry fruit abound in the aromas of the 2016 Saini Dry Creek Zinfandel. which are followed by juicy and rich blackberry and boysenberry on the palate. The tannins are soft and pretty and the finish is smooth with a tiny zip from the delicate acidity. This wine leaves you wanting another sip for sure.
