Saini Zinfandel, Dry Creek 2016

Home > Region > Region - California > Saini Zinfandel, Dry Creek 2016

The Sainis are 4th generation Sonoma County grape growers that have been farming grapes in both the Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys for over 100 years. Renowned for their integrity, attention to detail and impeccable farming skills; their passion for quality coupled with their experience and familiarity with the land they farm sets them apart from the rest.

Their legacy began in 1908, when Great Grandfather Michele Saini came to the United States from Genova, Italy. He made his living as a garbage man, driving a team of horses through the streets of San Francisco. In 1917, Michele bought a ranch in the Dry Creek Valley with his brother-in-law John Cuneo and started a partnership named Cuneo & Saini  The land they purchased produced crops such as pears, apples, prunes, and wine grapes. In 1934, Cuneo & Saini purchased another ranch in Alexander Valley. They built a solid reputation as grape growers, selling to some of the best wineries in  Sonoma County. The family business would further evolve with 4th generation Mike Saini having the dream of making wine under his own label from grapes grown on his family’s land. In 2008 this became a reality with the launch of Saini Vineyards. To complete the wonderful combination, fantastic winemaker, Julia Iantosca, was brought on board a couple of years ago and the wines are just amazing!

Layer after layer of bold berry fruit abound in the aromas  of the 2016 Saini Dry Creek Zinfandel. which are followed by juicy and rich blackberry and boysenberry on the palate. The tannins are soft and pretty and the finish is smooth with a tiny zip from the delicate acidity. This wine leaves you wanting another sip for sure.

    $48.00

The Brown family started as growers in Napa back in the late 70's selling their fruit to such prestigious wineries as T-Vine, Grgich Hills and Green and Red. In 1995, they started their own label with consulting winemaker, Duane Dappen (D-Cubed) getting them going. That was a great day for the wine world! The flagship Napa Valley Zinfandel historically has borne the responsibility of being the ultimate representative of what the Brown property and its unique microclimate have to offer—the cream of the Brown Estate zinfandel crop blended into one stellar wine. As such, it is the most challenging zin they produce because it requires commingling of several distinct personalities into a singular well-adjusted protagonist. The fact that each vineyard’s qualities complement and enhance the others’ virtues is a testament to the integration, fluidity, and perpetual motion—the balancing act!—that is Brown Estate itself. Stunning gemstone magenta core and ruby rim. True on the nose to the hallmark Brown Estate bouquet of rose petals, lily of the valley, hibiscus flowers, Asian apple, and effervescent citrus followed by dried apricot and peach. Medium body with silky mouthfeel, the palate at first delivers a burst of ripe red fruits, heavy cream, and loads of cascading exotic spice, finishing with a surprise of subtle crushed black pepper. Seamlessly integrated, elegant, and engaging. Drink now through 2022 to experience ripe fresh fruit, thereafter for a less fruity, earthier experience. 1100 cases made.

    $25.00

The Rabble Zinfandel 2018 comes from the Mossfire Ranch in Paso Robles.  Aged in French and American oak, it is 100% Zinfandel.  Atypical for Paso Robles Zinfandel, this gem exudes spicy raspberries in a dusty field of lavender and lilac. Opulence; an engulfing mouth feel of velvet cherries, rhubarb, brittle chocolate and finely crushed peppercorn. The finish is uplifting, with layers of bright acidity dancing on fine lush tannin. Part Primitivo in style, part California Zinfandel, this is the progeny of a dusty Paso Robles farmer and a stunning Italian minx.
