San Biagio Barolo Bricco San Biagio DOCG 2016
The San Biagio estate is located in Barolo within the famous Commune of La Morra. It was originally a Benedictine monastery (San Biagio Priory) and is listed in the village archives as far back as 1050 AD. The current winery was built alongside the original farmhouse in the year 2000 and features a modern vinification area, and a below ground cellar which provides the perfect surroundings for wines to mature. This delightful Barolo features complex aromas of berries, roses, jam and cooked plums. Dried figs, fresh picked mushrooms with hints of tobacco and leather, white pepper with a pleasant earthiness on the palate. Appealing spicy and balsamic overtones stand out in the more mature wine, especially star anise, liquorice, mushrooms and dried figs, as well as hints of tobacco and leather. Excellent with grilled steaks, wild game and rustic dishes. 92 Points – James Suckling.
