Sbragia Cabernet Sauvignon 2017, Andolsen Vineyard
The grapes for the Sbragia Cabernet Sauvignon 2017 Andolsen Vineyard are purchased from the family physician and longtime friend Dr. Andolsen. The steep, terraced vineyard is located in Dry Creek’s western foothills. The fruit is selected from their favorite blocks on this small vineyard. Dry Creek has not been historically known as Cabernet country, but we believe the same conditions that bode well for Zinfandel seem to also be doing well by Cabernet. This wine has herbaceous and floral notes with a layer of black currant and black cherry.

Sineann Cabernet Sauvignon Baby Poux 2014$68.00
Sineann Cabernet Sauvignon Baby Poux 2014 isn't really a baby anymore. Named back in 1998, it was made from a newer section of the famed Champoux Vineyard. Nearly two decades later, the baby's all grown up. The vines aren't babies anymore, but the name remains. Intense aromas of creamy black cherry, bittersweet chocolate, and a hint of dried herbs. Super dense in the mouth, with flavors echoing the aroma. Cassis and mineral notes emerge with time. Delicious Champoux fruit! The Baby Poux block of Paul Champoux's vineyard combines great Cab intensity with a remarkable approachability that Cabernet just doesn't often deliver. Sineann has used fruit from Baby Poux since it's first year of production and it has always had that approachable quality. Much to our delight, as the vineyard ages (it is now 18 years old) it is growing in depth and complexity. Where will it all lead to? We don't know, but it's fun going along for the ride and it's fun saying Baby Poux!! (This picture is of the 2009 vintage – 2014 pics are hard to find!)
Happy Canyon Piocho Bordeaux Red Blend 2017, Happy Canyon Valley, California, USA$37.00
Piocho Ranch was acquired by Thomas J. Barrack Jr. in 1992. Out of a love for the countryside and a ranchers life, the Barrack family developed rolling acres of vineyards. The peaceful and beautiful property sits nestled in the Happy Canyon Valley, a perfect location for growing grapes and riding horses. Two regulation sized Polo fields are groomed with the same care as the finest golf courses in the world. Piocho means “Where the two rivers meet and go to heaven.” The Happy Canyon Piocho 2017, a Bordeaux blend, has an inviting deep ruby color. Ripe black currant, cherry, espresso and smoky oak show on the nose. This wine is lush, sweet and open-knit, with a pliancy to its flavors of dark berries, licorice and chewing tobacco. The Happy Canyon Bordeaux Red Blend 2015 exhibits deep aromas of spice, dark bing cherries, wood, burnt blackberries and jam. On the palate there are slight herbal/floral flavors with minerality, dried violets and tobacco all surrounded by dense fruit. This a truly lovely wine that is wonderful to drink today when paired with big rich cuisine such as Santa Maria Tri-Tip. The wines structure will allow it to mature and age nicely for at least another decade! Dusty, slow-building tannins give grip to the finish, which repeats the cherry and licorice notes.
Arrowood Cabernet Sauvignon 2016, Knights Valley, CA$49.00
Tucked into the foothills of Mount Saint Helena on the remote eastern edge of Sonoma County, Knights Valley experiences a moderated climate, offering a longer and later growing season that develops dark fruit aromatics. The 2014 Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is bold with black forest fruit and spiced plum, offering undertones of roasted coffee and crushed rock. Caramel and anise come through on the palate accompanied by broad tannins and a rich and persistent finish.
