Sea Smoke “Ten” Pinot Noir 2018
Sea Smoke Ten 2018 is named for the ten Pinot Noir clones found on the estate vineyard. Sea Smoke’s most masculine wine, it is brooding and intense, with firm, mature tannins and a long, velvety finish. Ten is not for the faint-of-heart and has been known, on occasion, to convert even the most fanatic Cabernet lover. A brooding and intense wine. The aromas begin with notes of dried blueberries and fresh blackberries, then a myriad of spices, lavender and black cherry. Firm, mature tannins—evidence of Ten’s ageability—are followed by a long, velvety finish.

Stoller Pinot Noir 2017, Dundee Hills, OR$31.00
Bill Stoller was born on the property and raised on the family farm outside of Dayton, Oregon. Bill’s decision to transform the family farm into a vineyard stemmed from much more than wishful thinking. With the help of Burgundian winemaker Patrice Rion and local vineyard consultants, Bill confirmed that the very factors that made this land a poor choice for turkey farming were perfect for an award-winning vineyard. In 1995, Bill planted 10 acres each of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, combining the experience of consulting viticulturists with innovative vineyard techniques in order to maximize the grape’s quality. Crafted exclusively from estate fruit, the Stoller Dundee Hills Pinot Noir 2015 is made in an elegant, approachable style. It has aromas of brambleberry and cherry with floral notes of lilac and violets and understated hints of cola and cinnamon. The palate features a purity of red fruit flavors, bright acidity and medium tannins. This approachable wine pairs well with a variety of foods, including cedar plank grilled salmon with tarragon aioli, pulled pork with cherry chutney and pickled onions, creamed morel mushrooms with shallots and hard cheeses, especially Comté. 92 Points Wine Spectator.
Portalupi Pinot Noir 2017, Dolinsek Ranch, Russian River Valley$59.00
In 1996, Jim Dolinsek purchased the 10.5 acres property located on Laguna road that was then planted with apples and grapes. Jim’s father coincidently used to pick cherries on the ranch in the 30’s. The ranch was originally planted by the Frati family which included Old Vine Zinfandel. The vineyard has a rich Italian history of making field-blends including Alicante bouschet, teraldago, tempranillo, golden chasselas, black muscat and mouverde. The soil is the rich Russian River Valley Gold Ridge soil that provides complexity and muscle to the wines.
Tim Borges of Portalupie Winery has known Jim and his brother for over 30 years and had the good fortune to start working with Dolinsek Ranch with the first vintage of Zinfandel in 2009. In 2013, Portalupi started purchasing the entire crop of Pinot Noir. Portalupi has been producing award winning Old Vine Zinfandel and Pinot Noir since.
Baked bread and compost aromas compete with oak toastiness and ripe dark cherry in this wine, which veers into a beautiful velvety mouthfeel.
