Super Cab

Home > Region > Region - California > Super Cab

The Madrigal Cabernet Sauvignon 2019, Napa Valley has all of the Bordeaux varietals in it (75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Petit Verdot, 8% Cabernet Franc, 3% Malbec, 2% Merlot and comes from Madrigal’s Vineyard and Levine Vineyard on Atlas Peak. The wine has excellent balance, soft tannins and a long, delicious finish.

The color of the Rombauer Cabernet 2019 is intense and beautiful, almost black with purple, reddish hues. Aromas of black cherry, cassis, piecrust, spice, and mint mingle and leap from the glass. The palate is full and concentrated with similar aromas but also featuring black currant and sweet red cherry with the mild presence of oak, seamlessly integrated. Signature finely structured tannins and balanced acidity give way to a long finish which continues to build after that last sip.

Ruby in color, the 2018 Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon has notes of cassis, caramel, juniper and pomegranate. Lifted and vibrant on the nose, this wine is fresh on the palate with a juicy, fruit-forward core. Its silky mouthfeel will provide drinking pleasure through 2044 given proper cellaring conditions.

During the economic recession of 2001, and Owen Roe’s first couple vintages as a winery, Washington growers were facing hardship in selling their fruit, come harvest time. At Owen Roe, they wanted to help their farming friends and prevent missing out on such well-tended, beautiful fruit. They were presented with the difficult and costly purchasing of grapes to process, cellar and bottle, waiting several months to recover the costs on the finished wine. To overcome this obstacle, they decided to bring back the historical business practice of sharecropping, resulting in the aptly named wine, “Sharecropper’s.” Now called Growers Guild, this partnership meant that Owen Roe would take the fruit, make the wine and once it was sold, share the profits with the growers. This remains an important part of their history and due to the success of this wine; they are now able to pay the growers upfront. Everyone’s favorite go-to weeknight Cab does not disappoint in the Growers Guild Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. Sweet aromas of blackberry, candied fruit, vanilla and brown sugar leads to a more savory palate of pomegranate, green pepper and oil cured olives. This Cabernet finishes with bright acidity and lingering tannins. We recommend opening this wine now and enjoying it at a young age, however, this will age well for 4-6 years when properly cellared.

  • Shooting Star Cabernet Sauvignon 2016

    $24.00

In Lake County, the red volcanic soils, ample sunshine, almost no fog, the 1400 foot plus elevation, and the cool night temperatures, all add up to a wonderful place to grow red grapes. Steele harvests Cabernet Sauvignon for Shooting Star from two growers: Dorn Family Vineyards, and Shannon Ridge Vineyards. The Dorn vineyard is perched on a hollow on the NW corner of the dormant volcano Mt Konocti. Shannon Ridge Vineyard sits over 1600 feet above elevation on the northeast area of Lake County. Warm days and cool nights are ideal conditions for this site.

The Shooting Star Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 is aged for 15 months in oak barrels (20% new) in order to preserve the bright fruit flavors of this wine. The Shooting Star Cabernet Sauvignon has aromas of dark red fruit with just a hint of fresh herbs. The flavors are of black cherry, boysenberry and tobacco with soft, yet lingering tannins.

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs well with Leg of lamb roasted with fresh rosemary, and garlic, grilled flank steaks or try with an aged Gouda cheese.
