Trentadue La Storia Petite Sirah 2019, Alexander Valley

Home > Red - All wines > Red - Syrah and Petite Sirah > Trentadue La Storia Petite Sirah 2019, Alexander Valley

The 2019 La Storia Petite Sirah was made by blending together most of Trentadue’s best blocks of Petite Syrah including some Zinfandel and Syrah.
Petite Sirah grapes are very sensitive to dry weather conditions which were exaggerated this year due to our deficit irrigation practices. The 2019 Petite Sirah berries were very small and slightly dehydrated resulting in an impressive wine with very dark, opaque color, beautiful nose of concentrated blue berries and blackberries that leads to a full body mouth feel with engagingly soft tannins. After short aeration the nose opens up with the addition of cocoa, slight earthiness followed by brown sugar and a touch of vanilla-contribution of the new oak barrels. Overall the aromas are of fresh dark fruit and very attractive. Longevity, if stored properly, is one of the virtues of this variety and it will give you the most enjoyment in 5-8 years.

1000-2000 feet above Lake Sonoma and the Dry Creek Valley in NW Sonoma County. The Petite Sirah is the from the Parks’ Rockpile Vineyard, one of the first vineyards to be planted in the AVA, back in 1988. It is not a “rip your face off” Petite, but graciously styled while still full bodied, and packed with black pepper and sweet oak. Passionate purple in color, lively black peppery spice on perfumey blue-blackberry fruit along with Cedary oak spice, dusty cocoa, warm vanilla creme at finish, structured tannins for aging.

  • Bonny Doon Cigare du Volant 2020

Starting in late 1954 people throughout France began reporting UFO sightings. The sightings were popularized by heavy media attention, and became a concern for the citizens of France. The most common shape of the crafts reported were cigar shaped, called “Cigare Volant.” The people of Chateauneuf du Pape were so concerned by the sightings and the effects the UFOs may have on their wine, that the mayor banned the UFOs from landing in their vineyards. Tipping his hat to this story and the famous wine, Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon Vineyards named his Chateauneuf style wine Le Cigare Volant. The 30th Anniversary release of this, their flagship wine. A beautiful wine—dark and mulberry in color as in nose. One scents cool loamy earth with suggestions of raspberries and Damson plums. I do so love the largely Grenache vintages of Cigare; there’s an unmistakable spiciness to them—orange peel, cinnamon and black pepper. Grenache is not just about fragrance however; any synesthete worth his/her Maldon salt will know that the scent of Grenache is in part highly textural—soft and velveteen. And sure enough, on the palate the wine is also an essence of velours. “Exceptional” – Dan Berger's Vintage Experiences | “The classic Rhone-ish expression of Randall Grahm's fascination with wines of personality, the blend here is 55% grenache, 25% syrah, 16% mourvèdre, 4% cinsault. I have tasted many older versions of this wine and this one is set up to age a long time.” 93 Points – Wine Enthusiast.

  • Collier Falls Petite Sirah 2016, Dry Creek

    $50.00

In 1997, Barry Collier saved the top 8 rows of the Zinfandel block for Petite Sirah vines to blend with our Zin. 6 years later the Petite tasted too good to blend and they decided to bottle it as a stand alone varietal. This 100% estate-grown Petite Sirah is inky black in color with aromas of eucalyptus and cracked peppercorn alongside floral nuances of honeysuckle and violet. Dark, layered flavors of blueberry jam, blackberry cobbler, and tea leaves highlight the mid-palate. This is an opulent, full-bodied wine that shows surprising restraint and soft tannins, accentuated by a plush and lingering finish with a touch of vanilla oak. Only 66 cases made.
