Truchard Estate Syrah 2019, Carneros
The 2019 Syrah is dark purple with a ruby edge with notes of fresh blackberries, baked cherry, espresso, toasted spice and black pepper jump from the glass. For how full-bodied this wine is on the palate, it’s amazingly light on it’s feet for it’s opulence. There’s great tension between the fine velvety tannic structure and fruit and richness in this low alcohol, cool-weather Syrah.

Opolo Petite Sirah 2018, Paso Robles$36.00
Opolo’s estate vineyards were established from 1994-1996, with sites on both the west and east side of Paso Robles. The topographically diverse, coastal landscape of the westside vineyards provides for an intense and unique flavor profile. The heat and dryness of the east side vineyard make it an ideal microclimate for growing Bordeaux varietals. Home to a wide range of varietals, the estate vineyards help allow the team at Opolo to create many unique single varietals as well as award winning blends. The Opolo Petite Sirah 2018 has a beautiful dark ink color at first glance, framed with nutmeg and smoked meats on the nose, followed by baked blueberries, ripe plum, coffee and mocha. Leading into its full bodied finish of firm tannins with blackberry and savory cinnamon spice. Drink now, cellar for 3-7 years.
Trentadue La Storia Petite Sirah 2019, Alexander Valley$29.00
The 2019 La Storia Petite Sirah was made by blending together most of Trentadue’s best blocks of Petite Syrah including some Zinfandel and Syrah.
Petite Sirah grapes are very sensitive to dry weather conditions which were exaggerated this year due to our deficit irrigation practices. The 2019 Petite Sirah berries were very small and slightly dehydrated resulting in an impressive wine with very dark, opaque color, beautiful nose of concentrated blue berries and blackberries that leads to a full body mouth feel with engagingly soft tannins. After short aeration the nose opens up with the addition of cocoa, slight earthiness followed by brown sugar and a touch of vanilla-contribution of the new oak barrels. Overall the aromas are of fresh dark fruit and very attractive. Longevity, if stored properly, is one of the virtues of this variety and it will give you the most enjoyment in 5-8 years.
Madrigal Petite Sirah 2016, Napa Valley$39.00
Inky black-blue color precedes perfumed aromas of cassis, espresso, and dark chocolate. Intense dark currant, blackberry, and plush plum flavors initially fill the palate. This heady, explosive wine then finishes long with BBQ rub spices, sweet toasted oak, and round tannins. Pairs spectacularly with grilled meat, sausage, pizza (and anything with savory red sauce), and robust hard chesses like Parmesan, Pecorino, Romano, Sharp Cheddar, Emmental and Manchego.
